the baggy long sleeve has actually made him a quadrillion times hotter to me oh god i need him to push those sleeves up rn and then get me pregnant
you’re so right about the nominations. i think the show got way too many for what the season actually was (not that great) but those singular moments of good drama probably got everyone the nominations even if they weren’t standouts for the entire season
yeah and also it's esp frustrating because shabana and isa didn't get nominated when they had arguably MORE work and had very good performances but because the emotions aren't concentrated in One Specific Scene and instead are spread out thru the season they get ignored. and also like the other big reasons that they got ignored lmao
and if i say ogilvie and javadi had better arcs with better material to work with and more scenes to highlight their acting ability than at least half of the people who were nominated
i also think people don't realize emmy noms are for specific episodes, not entire seasons. like the network (or the actor in some cases) submits for a specific episode and is nominated solely based on that so if a scene or arc in the episode one actor submits was better (in the eyes of votes) than what another actor submits even if the other actor had a better overall performance throughout the season, the one actor will likely get the nom. it's actually surprising what episodes actors submit because i often feel like there are other episodes that better showcase their abilities. if there's an emotional crying scene (which is what i suspect for roxy's actor) or a big argument, that's what gets submitted because that's what people think "drama" is and it's kinda like award bait
yknow that's a really good point and yeah i have 0 doubt in my mind that they will submit for her final conversation with mckay where she says she's never died before because that WAS a good scene. there were still other patient storylines that overall were.... Better LOL but yes you are right !!!

can i say something controversial. i kind of understand why hbo didn't submit roxy's actress for an emmy bc so much of the conversation around that plotline was about how confused people were by her and her husband's relationship and ultimately that comes down to the directing but, also, the acting

For the first time ever, Mel gives Frank a fake smile.
“I hope you like it!” he says, then disappears to Central. The curve on her mouth vanishes with him.
To be fair to him, he gifted her exactly what she asked for – a pair of Loops, ideally purple. Nothing more, nothing less. They weren’t cheap either.
(She’d gotten him a linen shirt for the Renfaire, his favorite flowers, a massage gift card for his back and made him a cake, three layers, four hours of lovesick labor.)
Season 2 babies (pretending I never saw that shot with the ring)
as someone who thinks the hottest outfit a man can wear is a t shirt over a long sleeve these production pics are actually doing insane things to me (****** ** ***** ***)
these people are such joyless losers

i do nawt participate in rpf but these comments are insane work
being a pitt fan is so fun because i always sell how cool the one day per season thing is to people as a reason they should watch it despite the fact that since i first watched it last year i've considered the format to be the show's biggest and most glaring hindrance to cohesive storytelling

@kingdonmicrofic day 6: laughter | 500 words
Mel has a stupid, loud, obnoxious laugh.
She knows this. Her family knows, her friends know, and now, much to her chagrin, so does the crowd at The Punchline.
She was practiced in the art of hiding her real laugh. She’d perfected huffing it through her nose, pressing her lips together tightly, letting it out as a quiet little snort.
And yet, as she sat watching the dark-haired man on stage, she couldn’t seem to keep herself together. One particularly hilarious quip made a laugh burst straight from her belly, and Mel slapped her hand over her mouth a second too late. Frank stopped mid-step, turned toward her and squinted into the lights. “Okay,” he said. “I need to know who that was, like immediately.”
Mel froze. Trinity, traitor that she was, turned her entire body toward her. Frank followed the movement and pointed. “Cutie in the glasses, second row. Was that you?”
She stared, wide-eyed, hand still covering her mouth. That was answer enough for him.
“I like that.” He grinned. Mel couldn’t help but notice how handsome he was. “That was honest. Everyone else here is doing polite little hostage laughs.”
A laugh rolled through the room, and Frank nodded like it proved his point. “But not you,” he said, his eyes impossibly blue as they met hers. “You meant that shit.”
Mel felt a flush creep up her neck.
“And hey, I appreciate that,” he said. “I am up here for purely narcissistic reasons, and making a pretty girl laugh like that is one of them.”
Mel smiled before she could stop herself, bright and stupid and completely involuntary, and Frank’s grin tugged wider.
“Anyway,” he said, turning back to the room. “We were talking about my divorce, I think. Right?”
The crowd laughed, and Mel did too, but this time she caught it before it could fully escape.
Frank stopped again. “Oh, now we have a problem.” He looked at her, pouting. “You’re holding it in - that’s mean. That’s like taking a tip back out of the jar.”
Mel sank into her chair, her face burning. Frank paced a few steps, shaking his head. “No, it’s fine. I like a challenge. This is good for me.” He glanced back at her, his grin turning sharper. “Now I’m going to work for it.”
Trinity made a strangled sound beside her, enjoying this far too much.
“That’s my goal for the rest of the night,” Frank said. “I don’t care what happens to the rest of you. I hope you all have a medium time. But her?” He pointed at Mel again. “I’m getting that laugh back.”
Mel dropped her face into her hands as the room erupted.
----------------------
After the show, Trinity bullied her into having one more drink. Mel had barely taken the first sip when a folded napkin slid beside her glass - she looked up just in time to see Frank pass behind her chair.
Written on it, underneath his number: Next time, no crowd ;)

@kingdonmicrofic day 5: speech | 316/316 words | no content warnings
-
“... And lastly I would like to thank my girlfriend, Mel.”
At the sound of her name, Mel sat up straighter in her seat.
Frank looked down at the paper in his hands. What a relief it was when she saw that they weren’t trembling. “You know, more than anyone, that it’s been a hard couple years for me. A really hard couple of years. But, in some ways, it’s also been easy. Finding someone who sees through all my bullshit and who knows me in ways that I don’t even know myself… What a blessing. Man, what a blessing.”
Tears sprung to her eyes, but instead of reaching up to wipe them away, she kept her hands folded over her heart.
“You’ve taught me how to be a better doctor, a better father. A better man. You’ve made me believe in myself again after a lot of setbacks, and even though I know that I’ll never be able to thank you enough for that, I promise I will spend the rest of our lives trying to.” He raised the paper in his hand towards her like he was making a toast. “So thank you, Mel. For being you. And for making me a hell of a Ninja Turtles costume.”
The few people who were sober enough to listen to his speech clapped as he strode through the living room to where Mel was perched on the edge of Garcia’s couch. After flopping down onto the cushion beside her, he pressed the Best Costume award into her hands. “You did all the work,” he explained in response to her questioning look. “Besides, from here on out, my wins are your wins. Alright?”
“Alright,” she replied, beaming not only because of the sentiment, but because the 15 painstaking hours she spent making an oversized turtle shell out of paper mache, moving boxes, and a dream had paid off.
