youâre so right about the nominations. i think the show got way too many for what the season actually was (not that great) but those singular moments of good drama probably got everyone the nominations even if they werenât standouts for the entire season
yeah and also it's esp frustrating because shabana and isa didn't get nominated when they had arguably MORE work and had very good performances but because the emotions aren't concentrated in One Specific Scene and instead are spread out thru the season they get ignored. and also like the other big reasons that they got ignored lmao
and if i say ogilvie and javadi had better arcs with better material to work with and more scenes to highlight their acting ability than at least half of the people who were nominated
i also think people don't realize emmy noms are for specific episodes, not entire seasons. like the network (or the actor in some cases) submits for a specific episode and is nominated solely based on that so if a scene or arc in the episode one actor submits was better (in the eyes of votes) than what another actor submits even if the other actor had a better overall performance throughout the season, the one actor will likely get the nom. it's actually surprising what episodes actors submit because i often feel like there are other episodes that better showcase their abilities. if there's an emotional crying scene (which is what i suspect for roxy's actor) or a big argument, that's what gets submitted because that's what people think "drama" is and it's kinda like award bait
yknow that's a really good point and yeah i have 0 doubt in my mind that they will submit for her final conversation with mckay where she says she's never died before because that WAS a good scene. there were still other patient storylines that overall were.... Better LOL but yes you are right !!!

can i say something controversial. i kind of understand why hbo didn't submit roxy's actress for an emmy bc so much of the conversation around that plotline was about how confused people were by her and her husband's relationship and ultimately that comes down to the directing but, also, the acting

(Sheâd gotten him a linen shirt for the Renfaire, his favorite flowers, a massage gift card for his back and made him a cake, three layers, four hours of lovesick labor.)

To be fair to him, sheâs being ungrateful. Everythingâs fine, he didnât do anything wrong. Sheâs a grown woman who budgets her own allowance, even if itâs less than Beccaâs. She can buy herself everything she truly needs. (Except a date or his attention or a lobotomy to get rid of these feelings.)
For the rest of her birthday shift, Mel only sees Frank next to the new R3. He clings to her like Melâs bare thighs to a plastic chair in July heat. (Would it kill him to unpeel himself from someone he met two days ago?) When Mel leaves a patient room, he holds the door to the neighboring one wide open for Marissa. Mel searches for his gaze, he stares at the clear outline of their colleagueâs bra. (He never looked at Mel this way.) Mel walks up to him to ask a question, say anything, catch a glimpse of his ocean eyes, and he turns around to find his new ER Barbie to twirl around.
Twenty minutes past 3pm, Mel slips into the bathroom. She holds her breath, stares at the blurry red-brown streak on the ceiling (Whittaker?), but a minute later the toilet paper dissolves on her flooded cheeks anyway. She dabs cold water on her wrists. So what if heâll get remarried and sheâll always be âmy friend Melâ, no asterisk, no further explanation? Isnât that what she wished for during every short night on a hot pillow? Itâs fine, itâs fine, itâs â
No one calls her out for vanishing for ten minutes. He doesnât praise her for taking a break. No, Frank leans against a desk and beams at Marissa with one hand in his stupid, perfect hair, his bicep perfectly in view.
At the end of her shift, she dares to pull his birthday card out of the envelope.
âYouâve got a friend in me,â the front says.
A friend. Her candle wish come true, and all sheâll ever be for him. Why did she have to ruin this with her greed?
From Frankâs locker, Marissaâs laughter chimes through the hallway. Mel speedwalks past them.
âNo hug?â Frank shouts after her.
âToo sweaty,â she replies without looking back. For the first time on a shared shift, she walks alone to her car.

being a pitt fan is so fun because i always sell how cool the one day per season thing is to people as a reason they should watch it despite the fact that since i first watched it last year i've considered the format to be the show's biggest and most glaring hindrance to cohesive storytelling
