I think we haven't seen the scene with Rhaenyra sobbing in reacting to the burned skull...

So, I went to see The Odyssey Wednesday night and had a blast. I know there is discourse about Christopher Nolan's adaption, but I really enjoyed his take.

One aspect that I thought was really interesting was Nolan stating that Odysseus and his men were the Sea People. Based on what I got from some of the mythology classes that I have taken, I always thought that the Sea People's raids came after the events of the Trojan War. But, having the Sea People actually be Odysseus and his men raiding and getting lost while trying to return home does make sense and I think is a nice and logical connection/interpretation of a mysterious group of people. They're men who arrived from the sea and then raided and took what ever they could from different settlements along the Mediterranean. I like the conclusion in the context of the movie.

We know that La'an isn't in TOS, and like I talked about after last week's episode, I think her arc this season will begin to explain why she isn't there. I truly love her and Spock together and truly love their relationship, but he's married to T'Pring in TOS and seems to have embraced his Vulcan side more (please take this with a grain of salt. I've barely watched any of TOS. So forgive me if I'm making wild conclusion 😅😰). During this week's episode, after Spock is saved from the Griffin, he tells Chapel that seeing T'Pring made him come back to logic. To me, this experience and resulting trauma is the beginning of how he is in TOS and losing La'an is the final thing that causes him to shut his human side off.

This goes for Emily Carey and Phoebe Campbell as well.

I'm writing this as a good reminder for myself. ☺️

After seeing the trailer for season 3 and looking at some possible spoilers/supposed leaks (since I don't have HBO Max 😅😅😅), Rhaenyra must feel even more helpless, heartbroken and maybe even irritated when Jace locks her in her rooms before the Battle of the Gullet. We have seen in 2x6 when talking with Jace that she's tired of being protected and wants to be seen as a ruler who can protect and fight for her people. Rhaenyra tried many times to take the initiative by sneaking into King's Landing and then volunteering to meet Cole on Syrax. She specifically says that she doesn't want to hide while others fight for her. Jace's response to both instances is to become angry and say that she could have been or could be killed.

Jace obviously loves her and truly wants her to be queen, which is why he's saying these things. He also knows that she loves him and wants to protect him, just like when she refused to have him meet Cole. And that is why I think he locks her in her rooms. He knows that she will either want to join the battle, keep him from fighting, or both. So, he takes steps to keep her safe while also avoiding her telling him not to fight...

...which I completely understand...

...But I also completely understand how after hearing about Jace dying in the battle, she must be so overwhelmed and helpless. She's lost another child, who she loved and who was also her heir, which, like I said, is truly devastating and heartbreaking. But she's probably also irritated with Jace that he stopped her from fighting, that he was even fighting in the first place, and that he maybe thought she wouldn't be helpful in the battle and would be a liability. Which would make her feel guilty for being angry at her son and feeling this way.

I think this would bring up the resentment Rhaenyra feels towards her father for not teaching and preparing her more to become queen, which probably included military/battle training. Even though she expressed interesting in Visenya, is a dragonrider, and wanted to be a knight. Because like she said to Mysaria, if she had been born a boy, she would have had sword training once she could walk. Instead, she was only just prepared for some of more political knowledge of ruling and not for the potential negative responses people would have to her being queen. Just because she is a girl, which is the whole reason for the Dance. Yay sexism 🙄😒😑
