Then the entirety of TOS and the movies Spock just has a very busy wife on a different ship (maybe first officer for Una!) and they meet up when they can and have after shift calls and Spock never mentions her because he's a very private guy.

One of the best things that happened this season of Strange New Worlds is definitely La'an and Spock. There's a very beautiful and logical reason why they really make sense together.

First of all, when SNW decided to explore Spock’s human half, mainly his romantic feelings one of the things I dreaded most was the possibility that they might make it feel ordinary. The typical slow burn, or hatred-turned-love, or heartbreaks presented in a very human way.

Even in TOS, among all four women Spock encountered, I loved the girl in The Cloud Minders the most. Spock was truly fascinated by her curiosity, acceptance, and open-mindedness, not attracted to her because of some anomaly, confusion, or emotional conundrum. It felt like pure, logical Spock.

I was scared SNW might lose that.

That’s the main reason I loved La'an and Spock. When I watched Spock mind-meld with La’an in Season 1, I felt they had great compatibility. They understood each other’s pain so well. I had a tiny bit of hope, but it faded as the show started exploring his relationship with T'pring and Christine.

Coming back to La’an after T’Pring and Christine felt so meaningful, because the Vulcan in Spock needed T’Pring, and the human in him needed Christine. But the combination of Vulcan and human needed La’an Noonien-Singh. She balances both sides of Spock.

She’s willing to meditate with him and at the same time, smile a little in between. She’s not flawless in the relationship, but she’s willing to grow with him. Spock, on the other hand, loves her in all the right ways she wants to be loved. La’an isn’t someone who demands grand gestures; she needs small, meaningful efforts and that’s exactly what Spock gives her. Those few seconds of him making coffee for her speak volumes about how deeply he understands her.

It’s not loud. It’s not chaos. It’s not yearning, and it’s not extravagant. But it is deep.

One of my friends told me the writers are just exploring Spock’s relationships and emotions that La’an won’t last a season, and they’ll give him another love interest in the coming seasons, turning him into some kind of James Bond… But I really hope that’s not the case. I really hope La’an is the endgame. (Honestly, I'm saying not just because I'm a huge La'an Noonien-Singh fan)

How many people do I have to block? How many long-time trek channels on YT do I have to unsubscribe to because of the outright asinine negativity. People are saying SNW is right-wing now, apparently? (What the entire fuck is that take? Fuck all the way off.) I just closed out of a TrekCulture review vid (whose videos i normally enjoy) on YouTube about this week's episode because they completely lost the fucking plot by complaining THE ENTIRE time that it wasn't a proper documentary, it was amateurish, etc. THATS THE FUCKING POINT. HELLO?

Umberto is a young amateur journalist and filmmaker. This documentary style reeks of a second year film student project, and that was intentional. Umberto isn't coming at this with any semblance of objectivity. He has a personal agenda. He wants to find something, anything negative to prove a point, his point. He's angry and comes off as accusatory because he blames Starfleet for his sister's trauma. He asks naive and insensitive questions because he's fishing for a gotcha. But what he finds isn't what he expects. The ending feels as if it abruptly lost steam because so did he. There was nothing for him to find.

The criticisms i do agree with are that the episode was too short, that there were missed opportunities for more focus on Erica, and that there was definitely room for deeper exploration into the questions posed by this episode. But I believe that, too, was intentional. A more experienced journalist would have delved deeper into those questions and presented us with a more nuanced and objective take.

But that's not what we got. What we got was a biased take from a young man who has a chip on his shoulder in regard to this organization that he feels is the cause of his sister's pain. Yet, there was also an emotional sincerity to the entire episode that nearly left me in tears.

And I loved it.

It's different, it's a risk, and it's classic Trek in a new format. SNW deserves a modicum of respect just for having the balls to take risks of this magnitude with the small number of episodes given. Sometimes it lands, sometimes it doesn't. So far, for me, they've all landed.

Im tired of the fucking complaints about 'gimmick' episodes as if its a new thing in Trek. Shut the fuck up already.

This show is a lighthouse in a storm rife with negativity. Let people find shelter in it. Not all of us want to be carried out to sea on a wave of cynical bullshit. Just stop.

Im tired. We're all tired. If you can't find enjoyment in SNW, shut up, stop watching, and let those of us who enjoy it indulge in some escapism away from this hell we call a reality once a week.

JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK THAT YOUR SHIP IS SUPPOSED TO BE CANON DOES NOT MEAN THAT IT IS GOING TO BE CANON.

May I remind you all that Spirk was never actually canon in the TOS either and that neither Spock nor Kirk are confirmed to be anything but straight in the TOS and that just like all other fandoms all across the globe, you have the right to imagine whatever the hell your heart desires but it does not mean that it is going to become canon. This show is a prequel to the TOS. A FUCKING PREQUEL WHICH BY DEFINITION MEANS THAT IT LEADS TO THE CANON EVENTS OF THE TOS.

SPIRK WAS NEVER CANON.

Just like everyone else you cooked up that fantasy in your head, and good for you, find something that makes you happy to escape this shitty reality of life. That being said, Spocklaan shippers, myself included, would be happy with the show even if our ship did not become canon. We would not care. You hear me? WE WOULD NOT CARE. We would do what every other sane person does when their ship is not canon and write fanfiction. LIKE NORMAL FUCKING PEOPLE.

Are we happy that this happened? OF FUCKING COURSE WE ARE. But would we go on angry rants about how the show sucks because Spock and La'an did not end up together? NO. Because that's not how normal people behave.

So by all means, Spirk shippers that can't seem to keep their mouths shut about how "SpOcK iS sUpPosEd tO bE gAy" go and rewrite the scenes to your liking. Create fanfiction. Give other people something to read. Write away, edit away. You have full permission to do so, no one is stopping you and no one will tell you to stop doing that because "that's not canon" like some of you seem to think this world works. You have the freedom to do whatever you want with this just as the rest of us do.

And Spocklaan shippers know that this romance is doomed because we know La'an is not in canon but as I stated before, we do not care about it. We are enjoying the journey even though it will probably lead us to an inevitable heartbreak. But the thing is, when it does, we still won't care because we will still have the freedom to rewrite the scenes in our heads as well as in fanfiction. And we'll be fucking happy to do so.
