The Diplomat is like the simpler, lighter, broader audiences, we-want-women-watching-this cousin to Homeland or The West Wing.

The show starts when Kate Wyler gets sent to London as the new ambassador (when she'd had plans to be elsewhere) and at a time when the UK just suffered a terrorist attack. So now she has to deal with her ending marriage, her brilliant and charismatic but absolute political wildcard husband, a new job, and the task of figuring out who carried out the attack and how to respond. Plus, the real reason she's been sent to the UK...

You know when on tv shows the female characters are not just flawlessly made-up all the time but they try to make you believe they just wake up like that, false lashes and all? Keri Russell's Katherine Wyler is NOT that. She has messy hair, she looks different when she wears make-up than when she doesn't, she fidgets and runs her fingers through her hair and adjusts her clothes. She looks and acts and feels like a real person.

She's also very good at her job, and she has a really interesting relationship with her husband, and a spark with the Foreign Secretary *wink wink*.
