I think it's incredibly important here to not overlook the fact that she is a Black woman. Transphobia, racism, and sexism overlap significantly because of the incredibly eurocentric beauty standards women are judged on.

i like the phrases "it's not for me," "it's not my thing," and "i'm not the target audience" because they're the most concise way to express "this thing that you enjoy has merits but idgaf about it" without being aggressive

okay but this made me wonder if there was actually any academic literature on rickrolling and YES THERE IS this is a paper about rickrolling WITHIN academic literature. Hope it’s okay that I add to this. As someone who detransitioned, I personally did it due to my parents, extended family, and other people in general. Also, having no support or anyone who wanted to even try to understand. I was too afraid of other people hurting me, so I didn’t reach out more. I just tried to white knuckle it and bottle up all of that pain. After 3 years I thought “is this going to be my entire life? Alone except for people who just add to my pain? Afraid of everyone?” I couldn’t do it anymore. I was just a kid. I couldn’t handle the cruelty.
