"America is so young compared to other countries, we have no real history!"
We have archeological sites that are thousands of years old with evidence that people have been here for much longer, you just don't consider Native people part of this country's history unless we're being killed by colonists.
”spam like = block” yeah ok buddy. when i wake up to tumblr notifs of someone spam liking my stuff i start giggling and kicking my feet
My one boring tip to anyone in their 20s is to resist the temptation to rot in your room every time you get a free moment. Dismiss any neuroses you have about going outside and "being perceived". Be a dictator about it, plan your hangouts like they are binding commitments. No excuses! Go to the bar with your friends. Be kinda hungover at work. Socializing is like exercise; even if you don't feel like you want to, you should still do it because it's good for you.

smartest cat ever!
practicing self care less out of self love and more for the sheer logical reasoning of it’d be kinda stupid of me to expect myself to be able to function without proper maintenance
“oh i don’t deserve rest and relaxation, i haven’t done enough, i haven’t earned it” and my car’s breaks don’t deserve break fluid because they aren’t breaking well enough to earn it. that’s what you sound like!!!!!
has anyone noticed recently that it's expensive
times like these really make you appreciate pouring river water in your socks
one time I went over to a friend's house and their housemate was making paper in the living room, and we saw this big tub full of water they were using to dissolve old scrap paper into a slurry, and everyone was immediately like "oh, you need scrap paper?" and started turning out their jacket pockets and producing expired coupons and bus tickets and crumpled receipts and old shopping lists and whatever else they'd been carrying round with them for no good reason, and passing it all to the paper-making housemate to make sure it was suitable before it got torn up and dropped into the tub, while people took turns stirring the slurry with a big wooden stick. it was strangely ritualistic, like presenting an offering to some kind of temple elder for inspection before placing it in a watery shrine to be devoured and reformed. pulp for the pulp god.
I have a friend, their roommate collected pop tabs (the figure 8 shaped thing on cans, to open them with) to make art stuff with. First time a few of us came over and our friend explained why her roommate had a shoebox sized box on the table, half-filled with pop tabs, suddenly everyone was running to their cars. Just about everyone had an empty can or two in their cars, in the trash, and were pulling the tabs for the roommate to have.
After that, her roomie was showing us all her art. She made all sorts of pretty things to hang from windows, necklaces, little statue thingies. She used the pop tabs, ribbon, glue, glass beads, and those marbles that are flat on one side. Really pretty stuff. But any time anybody visited after, they brought little baggies of pop tabs, some were colourful from energy drinks and dog food cans.

You’re years too late to be recognizing the threat of US government mass surveillance, bud.
you would think, like, "oh, we've already thought of all the metaphorical ways we can say penis/vagina. we've already come up with the full list of nicknames. we have exhausted the list of innuendos. there is nothing else new to be said about this" and then you'll open a random explicit fic and make the most improbable linguistic discovery of all time

Have you seen 20 Lies, 4 Parents, and a Little Egg (2013)?
Yes
No
I've never heard of this film
Final result: the majority of voters have NEVER HEARD OF this film. Only one person has seen it.
This film is a made-for-tv dramedy about a gay couple who temporarily take in a teenager - who happens to be the biological son of one - while one of his moms is in the hospital. It originally aired on Dutch television (though I don't know which channel).
If you speak Dutch, you can watch this film here:

sir do you listen to classical music? If yes do you have any recs?
I am, in fact, a classically trained oboist!
Classical music is an enormous genre, spanning centuries and cultures. Because of my training, I focus on the Western tradition. I enjoy the baroque and romantic periods the most, with some 20th century.
Usually when asked for recommendations (assuming you are new to classical), I lean towards music that feels like a movie soundtrack or otherwise has memorable themes non-musicians easily remember:
Ma Vlast - Moldau: Smetana
Danse Macabre: Saint-Saens
Night on Bald Mountain: Mussorgsky
New World Symphony: Dvorak
Scheherazade: Rimsky-Korsakov
The Planets: Holst
Symphony No. 4: Tchaikovsky (5 is also a banger)
Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis: Vaughan Williams (Lark Ascending is also great)
My personal favorites, however, are what I enjoy playing:
Summer Music: Barber
Trio and Sextuor: Poulenc
Serenade for Winds: Dvorak
Double concerto: J.S. Bach
Sinfonische Metamorphosen: Hindemith
Concerto for Orchestra: Bartok
I do have one exception, and it's that I fucking love the Beethoven Violin Concerto.
The RVW piece reminded me of something and I'd love to hear your thoughts, but I have to preface by saying that what I'm about to direct your attention to may (at least at first impression) seem like the worst idea you've ever heard if you're not already aware of it. There's a guy who has a youtube channel on which - among many other pieces - he has posted an arrangement of the entirety of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, note for note (as far as I can tell), but
performed as heavy metal. Also half of the pieces on your intro list (Danse Macabre, Night on Bald Mountain, The Planets (all of them), a medley of RVW) and various others.
As someone who will argue that power metal is the spiritual successor of J.S. Bach, I love me a good arrangement, and it's especially fun when it changes the genre.
I mean, in the classical music biz, we are almost *all* cover bands of one sort or another. Even when playing something "straight," there is a tremendous amount of variation, and many traditional styles (baroque ornamentation, cadenzas in concertos) outright demand personalization on the part of the performer.
Wednesday the 15th. What an excellent day. Middle of the week, middle of the month. Truly, we are in the middle of things.
Well that's why everything is mid
