I have drawn Blitz many, many times, but I haven't studied how to draw him in a long time. I wanted to take some time to learn how to draw him on-model in the shows style to be able to draw him more accurately.
itâs crazy how when youâre 11 you think wow nationalism is the root of all evil and war is despicable and religion is the opiate of the masses and misogyny is everywhere and climate change is our most dire threat. and you start to grow up and you think well surely it will become more nuanced to me, surely there must be a reason adults arent breaking down wailing in the streets due to the cruelty of this world. and then you become an adult and you think wow nationalism is the root of all evil and war is despicable and religion is the opiate of the masses and misogyny is everywhere and climate change is our most dire threat

For a show about a guy who's kind of an action hero and starts his own business, beating the odds, Helluva Boss is kind of anti-"bootstraps" and more about love and community, and that's really great.
Or Blitz and The Abyss
I was reading a lot about Joseph Campbell and the hero's journey earlier this week. I'm interested in the shapes of stories, but at the same time, it's reductive to narrow stories "across times and cultures" down and reduce them to their broad strokes.
One of the most common critiques of the hero's journey (besides the.. you know, sexism and Eurocentrism) is that it's a "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" narrative. The hero gets support from mentors, allies, and magical objects along with way, but in the pivotal moment, the hero must go into a metaphorical or literal cave and face his greatest fears alone.
Once in the cave, the hero initially fails and descends into an abyss, and then he gathers strength (sometimes from dead loved ones, magical objects, etc.), and returns to conquer his fears. Sometimes he literally dies and gets resurrected. Other times, there's a metaphorical death. Regardless, he emerges empowered to fight, and is finally triumphant.
In serialized shows, we often get a bunch of these moments (best example coming to mind is Buffy- she was always falling into abysses alone without her friends and allies and pulling herself back out (I'm sure there were exceptions, but . . .).
Now, Blitz has a few different abysses, especially recently. Let's take a look.
He faces a few emotional abysses (I'm talking Ozzie's/Queen Bee, New Moon/Apology Tour . . .) where he buries the difficult emotions or acts out. He insists on not relying on anyone, and his "toughness" honestly doesn't do him any favors, and the pain remains and deepens.
In "Ghostfuckers," we find Blitz at a more traditional abyss in a fight against an enemy. He's at a low point where he believes he's lost Stolas because of his own stupid actions, so he's vulnerable enough that he gets pulled into an abyss of his own self-hatred by Rolando the infester demon.
Blitz does not fight his way out. Millie saves him. She recognizes his strength, but ultimately, in this situation, she's the MVP.
Blitz ends up getting his strength back. But it's because Millie shows him that he has a true friend who deeply values him, not because he fought the darkness alone. If he did, he would have lost.
We see Blitz descend into an abyss again in "Mastermind." He sacrifices himself for his found family and faces almost certain death alone.
But he doesn't pull himself out. Stolas saves him.
One could argue that this gives Blitz the strength to go back and fight, and yeah, from the moment Stolas's life seems to be on the line, he sure does fight. . .
But it's not enough because no matter his strength of will, the thing he's fighting against (all of Hell's hierarchy) is too much for him to overcome alone. And even Stolas, who is much more powerful (and also tried to take on this massive structure alone, for Blitz), is left powerless at the episode's end.
Are bitter sweet mid-points really common in TV shows? Yes. But. I still argue that the way the hero gets out of each challenge is important.
Blitz ends "Mastermind" feeling . . . kind of good. But it's not that he's proven himself. Just like in "Ghostfuckers," but on a larger scale, it's that he sees that he's loved, by his friends, by his daughter, and by Stolas. And that maybe . . . the larger community of imps is starting to appreciate him too. For being a loud mouthed weirdo who got sentenced to death, then called the rulers of hell out on their shit and lived to tell the tale.
So Blitz is pretty great but also . . . he's not powerful. He's still just an imp. The dangerous situations he just faced are still just as dangerous. His value as a "hero" is in personal connections- the people who know him and the people inspired by him, NOT in great accomplishments.
Now, you might say. 'This is the mid-point. The story isn't over. Blitz still has plenty of time to overcome an abyss by himself.' And I say, sure. Anything's possible, but that's not how I see it going.
I think that Blitz is going to change hell's society for the better, in a big or small way. But he's going to do it with the people most important to him, not on his own. And the strength of his family, relationships, and community will shine over sheer individual heroism. That's it. That's what the show's about.
I have a little headcanon that angels would find the appearance of Goetia incredibly off-putting; not just in the typical "ew a demon" way, but full-on unsettling, Uncanny Valley type shit. And that inspired this dumbass little comic đ

No, but the way Mission Zero is making me even more unwell about early Stolitz and specifically Ozzie's than I already was...
This turned into a proper meta post, so I feel it deserves a title:
Early Stolitz, rocky expectations, and how Ozzie's changed everything.
(An analysis of Blitz's side of things.)
1. What Blitz thought Stolas wanted.
Let's start at the end of the Season 1 Stolitz arc: Ozzie's.
At the beginning of that fateful night, Blitz has exactly one goal in mind: to stalk M&M on their anniversary date.

Theories about the third season of "Helluva Boss"
It's time to build crazy theories about the third season of "Helluva Boss."
Why now? Because the waning moon is in the sign of Gemini, and I want to entertain you a little while you wait for the second short film.
Knowing that Vivienne really loves to do self-repeats of her own episodes, I decided to take episodes from the first and second seasons, compare them, calculate some common points between them, and based on the results, make predictions about what we can expect in the upcoming season.
And so, let's get started!
Season 1 Episode 1 "Murder Family"
Season 2 Episode 1 "The Circus"
What do we have in common in these episodes:
Innocent children.
The fact of infidelity is present.
There is a person who is extremely hostile towards this fact.
And then there's the cake.
I have two versions of development that stem from what I have:
First.
A party for Millie and Moxxie's unborn baby.
Second. We will finally see this story from Stella's perspective. Starting from her childhood and ending with the preparations for Octavia's birthday (I have a feeling there will be a cake).
Based on what Stolas says in "The Circus":
We can conclude that she is seventeen, at least a few months.
There are about five or six months between the events of "Circus" and "Sinsmas". That means there's not much time left before her eighteenth birthday.
And so, one would assume that her birthday would be shown in the first episode, but... this girl is too fond of appearing in episodes in which the number two is present (2, 12). Two must be her lucky number.
Season 1 Episode 2 "Loo Loo Land"
Season 2 Episode 2 "Seeing Stars"
Well, it's simple:
Octavia!
And as I mentioned earlier, I'm betting that this episode will be dedicated to her birthday.
Season 1 Episode 3 "Spring Broken"
Season 2 Episode 3 "Exes and Oohs"
In both seasons, the third episode is dedicated to exes. In the first, we are introduced to Verosika, Blitzø's ex-girlfriend, and in the second, to Chaz, Moxxie and Millie's shared ex.
And here I have two scenarios: Either we'll get a more detailed look at Millie's relationship with Chaz, or we'll see the return of the "BTB" guy.
There's still a possibility that it's Loona's ex, but that seems like the weakest theory. In any case, the third episode is always dedicated to exes, no matter who they are.
Season 1 Episode 4 "C.H.E.R.U.B."
Season 2 Episode 4 "Western Energy"
It took me a long time to find a link between these series.
I eventually came to the conclusion that in the fourth episode, we will be introduced to a new antagonist.
Season 1 Episode 5 "The Harvest Moon Festival"
Season 2 Episode 5 "Unhappy Campers"
Episodes introducing the family of the main characters. In the first season, we are introduced to Millie's family, and in the second season, to Barbie Wire, Blitz's sister.
Since we met Moxxie's father earlier in the third episode. It would be logical to assume that the fifth episode will finally focus on the Loona and its past. Who was her family? Why did she end up in an orphanage?
True, we still have the unrevealed character of Stolas' mother, but I think it will still be a Loona episode, and we will probably hear her song at last.
Season 1 Episode 6 "Truth Seekers"
Season 2 Episode 6 "Oops"
A kidnapping. Or rather, a double kidnapping.
I once read a theory that the agents would be able to summon Stolas and kidnap him, and Blitz and the team would have to rescue him. However, at least two people would be kidnapped. Most likely, those who needed a heart-to-heart conversation the most to improve their relationships.
Season 1 Episode 7 "Ozzie's"
Season 2 Episode 7 "Mammon's Magnificent Musical Mid-Season Special (ft Fizzarolli)"
It's simple again:
Sins!
The first season introduces us to Asmodeus, and the second season introduces us to Mammon. So, in the third season, we can expect a broader exploration of Leviathan or Belphegor.
At the Fizzarolli company.
Season 1 Episode 8 "Queen Bee"
Season 2 Episode 8 "The Full Moon"
I didn't find anything common or plot-relevant in the eighth episodes. This may be due to the fact that the eighth episode in the first season was originally intended to be a filler episode.
Maybe someone will throw up.
And since the first season ends with the eighth episode, and there's nothing left to compare, I'll wrap it up.
I will only add that I have a feeling that in the eleventh episode of the third season, there may be a legal appeal for Stolas involving Vassago.
Thank you for your attention, and I hope I was able to entertain you a little.
I wholeheartedly agree with everyone who has pointed out that Stolas believing he would die in Blitzø's place highlights how oblivious he is to his own privilege.
But I also want to talk about how Stolas wasn't the only one who genuinely believed he, a Goetia, could die in Blitzø's place.
Blitzø's agonised cries are not the cries of someone who thinks their lover is making it out alive đ
to me this level of desperation from blitzø comes, at least in part, from his own self-hatred and fears about destroying those around him. like even if he intellectually knows stolas might get away with things he himself can't, in the moment what has just happened is stolas not just sacrificing himself, but sacrificing himself for blitzø - willingly taking on blitzø's mess, wading into the muck and grime that covers him and his life. of course terrified, self-loathing blitzø can't help but jump to the worst conclusion, that stolas is going to die and it will be all blitzø's fault. again. that's what happens when people love him.
This 100%. He's catastrophizing, and who can blame him, with his personal history and the situation he was just in.
He already had his "he can get hurt?" moment with Stolas almost dying in Western Energy.
I think he's also fully inexperienced with this type of situation and has no reference except for the one right in front of him, where the punishment is getting beheaded right then and there.
There's no way he was dragged in front of a court before he met Moxxie in jail. He was just thrown in there.
From the characterâs pov, this whole situation is completely unprecedented. No one actually knew what Stolasâ punishment would be. Hell itself only exists because Angels stepped out of line a little too much.
Stolas has the privilege of a real-world rich white man, but letâs also not forget heâs a disabled, gay white man with no allies in his corner. Satan could have made an example out of him. Satan could have said âIâll kill the important ones too if thatâs what it takes.â And Iâm not sure how many of the upper class would have been surprised. The Sins? Most likely. Theyâre already clearly annoyed with Satan trying to make himself more important than he actually is. But the Goetia? Who would have caused any waves if the most ostracized, awkward member was used to remind everyone of their places by killing him?
We as the audience know thereâs two more seasons, so he has to stay alive for plot reasons. And it makes complete sense that Satan would keep him alive for the same reasons that rich white men get away with bullshit no one else can. But the characters donât have that knowledge. And Stolas, protected as he is by power and moneyâŚis still disabled, and gay, and not well liked. It would not have been a stretch to use someone no one would mourn to remind the citizens of Hell where they stand. âIf Satan is willing to kill even a Goetia, then we better not cause problems.â
Alllll of this yes!!!

Shower thoughts moment about Stolas and Blitz' communication issues.
Something I haven't seen in these discussions before myself (beside the matter of how wishy-washy and overly accommodating Stolas tends to be):
Stolas is *overly polite*, to a degree Blitz simply can't decode the intricacies of it anymore.
His politeness is such an obvious, on-brand part of his behaviour that it gets overlooked as a source of communication issues, and their difference in social 'rank' is connected to this, too.
Tl;dr Stolas' usual cordial manner, overly restrained by the upper class code of conduct he was raised with, makes it very difficult for Blitz to take what he does and says at face-value, and this results in a fundamental unease and distrust on his part.
ooooh i love this so much!! and then it's all just taken a step further when we get to sinsmas, bc after living with "regular people" for a month stolas no longers needs to adhere to those societal rules
blitzø pushes him off the couch and immediately stolas lets him know that irritated him
i'm excited to see more of this in S3
Good shower thoughts and very accurate!
I remember having a conversation along these lines when Full Moon first came out. Both how their upbringings/respective traumas caused a difference in overly polite/extremely blunt and confrontational, and how they both went through situations of being the 'unwanted outcast' but learned extremely different responses to that: Blitzø learned that he has to fight and be loud to be understood, and Stolas learned that he should just give up the moment there's pushback.

Helluva Boss coming to Prime Video
Idk how to feel about that.
I think the thing I'm the most afraid of is if we don't have a month break between each episodes.
I'm pretty impatient, but having a month gives us time for fan art, fanfics, theories, analysis... I feel like I love this part as much, or even more than the episodes themselves.
Plus 1 episode per month is more than a year, 1 episode per week is less than 4 month đ
