It’s been nearly a year since I started reading devotions and I need you to know that I still think of it constantly between updates. Usually with WIPs after a while I can be normal again and go about my days until the next update but I think this fic has altered my brain chemistry. been reading (and rereading ∞) devotions to the point it has become a research project. going over the tags and Big Feels™ to see Viktor Is In Love With Jayce vs Jayce Is Obsessed With Viktor. highly supportive of allo/aro/ace interpretations and content. but wondering if poor Viki is doomed to a life of pining. Seeing the parallels between young!Jayce and Vander and the dramatic irony of knowing how canon!Jayce's and Viktor's relationship plays out leaves a reader wondering where does it all go...

Loved your fanfic. It’s top tier fr. And I’m obsessed with it. I do have a question that idk if it was something intentional or I’m reading too much into it. While I was reading, specifically around the middle, I kinda got the impression that Silco and Vander view the kids differently? Like. I feel Silco has the distinction that Viktor is his baby, while Vi and Powpow are Lesha’s babies. He feels more like a loving uncle, devoted and caring, but within the boundaries of not being the parent. Meanwhile Vander feels like he views all the kids as his? He gives me the vibes that he doesn’t see that distinction as much. And I’m not saying one loves more the kids than the other, it’s just idk, the vibes they give me. I know there’s not nuclear family or strict labels here, but it’s thing that’s been picking my brain. Am I reading too much into it? Anyway. HOPE you have a lovely weekend, dearest <33
This is something I’ve kinda felt in a nebulous way but not necessarily been super intentional about — so it’s c cool how you summarise your reading of this! I think Sil has grown up ostracised for a lot of his childhood, by peers and adults alike. I wonder if he identifies or feels kinship w Viktor and so they bonded in a way that he hasn’t with the other children (powder is very little atm).
You could say that Vander and Violet have a special bond too but I think Sil is more protective of his bond w vik? I’m not too familiar with attachment styles but I do think Sil oscillates between fear of abandonment and detached something something.
I also think the fact kids in general gravitate to Vander easily (rather than Sil) might also shape the way he behaves towards them. Vik kinda clung to Sil very early on and Sil felt “chosen” (even if he misattributes this mostly to visual resemblance w viks mum)

i was devastated to read Jayce getting caught so fast mostly cuz i wanna see him and Paua duke it out. Like, Viktor's biggest fans would be each other's biggest haters. Plus Paua having the rune stone probably would make Jayce mad too

I think on of my favorite parts of this devotion may contain side effects is the ways in which you foreshadowing the fact that little future Jinx is clearly already experiencing hallucinations, and that she clearly got it from Felicia. You lay the groundwork beautifully where I actively went back and reread bit going oooooh and catching on to what's happening.
also i know it's not published yet, but i'm biting the drywall already over your prequel content looking at Silco, Vander and Felicia. You write them all so well, and heartbreakingly. She was doomed by the narrative and as is Ned. Gotta love the 'this character is walking dead, we all know they're dead, but readers are going to love 'em before they go"
I may have other thoughts, can't wait to see how people fall into their respective canon slots, or who's breaking the mold...cuz we've still got a LOT of years before we even hit the start of s1arc1 plot stuff >:D
Also, final thought for now (will have more later) but the parallels of the final wounds that the zaundads inflicting on each other leading to it rotting out and having to be removed? *glorious chefs kiss*
