Your child is not misbehaving. He’s trying to meet his needs in the only way that he understands. He has experienced you as a roadblock.

What should a person do when they encounter a roadblock in life? Find a way to work with it to get the need met.

If the bridge is out between you and the grocery store, do you really care why the bridge is out? You’d be willing to just accept that you can’t use the bridge IF you had another way to get to the store. What you need isn’t focus on what you can’t do. What you need is focus on what you can do instead.

He needs a partner, not a roadblock. He needs someone to help him meet his needs in ways that are safe, doable and respectful of others.
