Sephiroth is a villain.
Sephiroth is a monster.
Sephiroth is (probably) irredeemable.
Sephiroth is also a victim of physical/medical/emotional abuse.
All of these things can be true at the same time.
Agreed with the first two and the fourth. Neutral to/disagreeing with the third. I don't think they would have added various aspects to First Soldier, including him taking to heart how "a bit of kindness" can break the cycle of hatred if he was truly meant to be irredeemable. That sounded like they were setting up a potential redemption down the line, and it's not like that bit is unprecedented: That's quite literally how Darth Vader redeemed himself in Return of the Jedi, at the cost of his own life.
Also:
Finkelstein's a saint ultimately compared to Hojo. At least he ACKNOWLEDGED Sally as being his daughter and actually ACTED like a parent, rather than treating her like a toy (if anything, Hojo was more like Frankenstein).
I think too many people forget that, for all of his alien modifications, Sephiroth IS human and IS subject to the nuances of human tragedy. Both of his biological parents were human. He was born from a human mother. Jenova was grafted into him, but Sephiroth's capacity for compassion is indicative of his true human heart. He only really goes full alien after he emotionally/psychologically rejects his own humanity. But it doesn't erase what he is on a fundamental physical and biological level.
Sephiroth was human.
Sephiroth IS human.
And if his interactions with Aerith and the other dead are of any indication (him saying "I wonder..."), or heck, even his Remnants being partly modeled after his more human traits, he hasn't completely rejected those aspects either.
Friendly reminder that Usagi literally dying for the good of mankind TM - even when said Mankind TM could care less about her and her well being - was never enough for her to receive even the most basic respect and human dignity in the 90-s anime version.
ALL of her sacrifices, all of her devotion, all of her refusal to be an immoral fanatic a la Haruka and to maintain a semblance of loyalty to her female friends and her own principles only ever led to one thing: she was mocked and ridiculed and abused for being a "dumb and naive crybaby" in the next episode. And only ever allowed to remain the "dumb crybaby" because her future self already "proved her Worth TM".
Special Girl Special Power shows and products were always a misogynistic trap for women. Because no matter how great, self sacrificing, selfless a woman is she is never enough.
But the men in charge of the media make it look like a woman can "earn her keep" if she just... sacrifices more, you know? Dies enough, you KNOW? Loses enough female friends? You know???
And then Ikuhara, Whedon and other "male feminists" will give you "progressive queer storylines!!!111!!!" to make up for that.
If you have a brain and have self respect don't fall for it. Especially if you are a girl. Do what makes you happy. Do not sacrifice for literally anyone or anything who will not do the same for you and won't worship you like a goddess when you do.
Make sure to prioritize your needs and your "selfish" desires over any Forced Special Mission TM. And certainly over any male creep like Mamoru who only values you if you have Forced Special Powers TM.
You're definitely not going to like The Boss's arc from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, then. She went through the EXACT same thing, and to add insult to injury, she died saving her country by having her student kill her, and her country "repaid" her by basically memory-holing her at best, at worst made her out to be a traitor and war criminal and dishonored throughout history (oh, and if you thought THAT was bad, Peace Walker via The Boss's tapes made the abuse by her higher ups SO in your face by her country that The Boss felt less like a patriot and more like someone who had battered wife syndrome. Put another way, even Usagi had more self-respect than this.). It was in fact a guy who pushed that as well, series creator Hideo Kojima (who incidentally ended up BASHING the Disney Princesses as a whole later on, and even bashed Princess Peach in Super Mario during Super Smash Bros. Brawl via Solid Snake), and the one guy who even respected her enough, ironically the guy who killed her, ends up becoming a bad guy down the line partly BECAUSE of said guilt. Oh, and like those guys, Kojima showed himself to be a male feminist by claiming the 21st century would be "a century for women to protect men" while promoting his then-in development Metal Gear Solid 2. She didn't even have Magical Girl powers, to boot, she was just the Mother of all Special Forces and someone who fought in World War II, while PREGNANT mind you.

When a person has an anime icon, a genre whose distinctive feature is the rampant sexualization of underage girls and toxic fetishes of male creators/producers and passes it off as "progressive" to endorse one of such fetishes in the non-anime media they automatically should not be taken seriously.
Especially when the fetish they endorse is coming from a right wing bigot Sonnenburg who harassed women and children online and wanted the female lead with his sexualized waifu OC reportedly modeled after his decades old creepy unrequited crush. All while he was bending over backwards to exact his man-child revenge on the male lead and the "pretty boys" said male lead represented, the likes of whom presumably upstaged Sonnenburg in real life.
It is not that those people are wrong about the series having a malicious agenda against Flynn and Flynn/Rapunzel. That's the one point they actually get right and are more objective and accurate on that account than the uncritical canon/endgame fans. Who refuse to recognize said agenda even existed and like to pretend the romance and the characters individually were not retconned and bastardized in the show.
It's that those people are the ultimate proof of how conservatives and "progressives" are one and the same, are fetishizing women, backing abusive men when said abusive men give them the content they want (see also Whedon's crumbled empire) and want to take away female power fantasies that the OG Tangled movie used to be.
Hey, Sonnenburg? "Has any of the money trickled down yet?" (c)
I'll be blunt, DailyWire really needs to cut Sonnenburg loose, because he's DEFINITELY not doing them any favors (I've already seen enough infiltrators ruining sites like Conservapedia). Attacking women and kids online is COWARDLY, period. And I've already seen enough of that crap on the internet as it is by some Pokemon fans, and one, CyberCubed, dating back to 2004 (and older than the general age bracket of Pokemon even back during the original series) basically acted EXACTLY like him and Whedon in more ways than one, INCLUDING overrating an overdeveloped 10 year old replacement and kicking her predecessor down repeatedly, and even going as far as to write really sick fanfics of her quite literally getting screwed by Ash while STILL remaining 10 (oh, and worse, he flat out ADMITS with pride to being a troll who caused carnage on the forums), even dismissing anyone who criticized May who wasn't even FROM the original or AG fanbase as "not living through that time period" and harrassing them.
And it's a darn shame, as DailyWire did an excellent documentary exposing Lenin as a monster, called Empire of Terror, and don't want it to get saddled by such trash like Sonnenburg.
It deeply saddens me that "pdf file" has become slang for pedo. Don't you dare disrespect my wife the beautiful portable document format ever again
and to the children in the notes saying we need this fucking baby talk to get around censorship online; there's been no credible evidence that any site other that YouTube (which will only demonetize your video, ftr) will actually censor or hide content that include words like rape, pedophile, gun, terrorist, etc. etc. and even if we take as a given they were (which, again, they are not), do not fucking comply in advance, you absolute fucking coward. and ESPECIALLY do not comply by altering your real life fucking vocabulary. don't let the technocrats dictate what words you say holy fucking shit dude!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do not live your life based on what someone is comfortable advertising next to.
I think GameFAQs might have the same censorship problems as YouTube (I know they actually listed "cock" as a bannable word regardless of context, even saying "cock" as in "cocking a gun" in the context of Shadow the Hedgehog's opening gets bannable just because the word technically is the same as male genitals).
Although "The unseen is much scarier" and "having the imagination fill in the blanks elicits fear" can be an effective usage of generating fear in a horror film or novel, there are a few times where the unseen if anything DOESN'T have you scared at all DESPITE the writers intent due to their overlooking key details that made the scenario implausible. Like Chrissie Watkins' death, especially when just visually watching it on mute and thinking on how the shark "attacked" her before eating her. I guess to put it another way, the opposite of "the unseen is much scarier" is more "You don't scare me, that could be anyone's ass" to quote The Simpsons.
These writers are driving me nuts with all the Misty-ness thrown around lol I miss her. All I need now is to say her name ;)
What if Misty is like Voldemort in that her name shall not be spoken among the production staff. So they instead make all these strange “coincidences” happen instead. Spooky.
Not likely, since they made her a wrong answer during the Sun and Moon leadup while indicating it was a near-miss. Not to mention that radio show back in 2012.
Have to admit, Serena handled being licked slightly better than Misty. Sure, she screamed in fright, but it still beats being left paralyzed.

This has been bugging me a bit but I’ve decided to finally put it in writing. Eighteen episodes into Pokemon XY and I’m beginning to have this train of thought. Namely, does Serena seem like she was constructed as a foil to Misty?
Perhaps that’s a preposterous notion to make, especially since Misty has been gone for so long. Arguably she wouldn’t be on the radar or zeitgeist of the production team at all due to how irrelevant (perhaps that’s too strong of a word) or simply, non-bearing she has on the current storyline.
But I honestly don’t think I’d be making this comparison if it wasn’t for this one simple fact: both Serena and Misty are the only main girl characters to have officially written romantic feelings for Ash.
I actually started to notice that bit as well, which is part of the reason I had zero issue viewing them as friends DESPITE their respective shipping ties to Ash.
You know, as much as people say Misty was left to the side in Johto, we still got some really cool episodes that focussed on her such as Fortune Hunters, For Crying Out Loud, and Hook, Line, and Stinker that make Johto worth watching for Misty fans.
Fully agreed, and even episodes where she WASN'T the focus, she still played a key role in helping save the day/resolving the conflict.
…I just realized that kid in the Pokemon Center said he owned a Gyarados. Dude looks like he’s eight but he somehow has a Gyarados. Whatever, the plot must go on.
Must be a prodigy...
Do you feel that Misty is treated poorly by the writers? She hasn't had a cameo in 7 years, and she has now not appeared for two series in a row. They also constantly bring Brock back over her, either as a main character or for a special. Between that and May and Dawn getting better screentime than her, it makes me feel like the writers never cared for Misty much. Why is it that aside from flashbacks/endings they haven't put her in an episode since 2005? That was like 7 years ago.
Oh? What’s not to love? She’s had four specials. Been in four main series episodes. She’s had various mentions throughout the anime. And she’s been in flashbacks. I don’t think there’s any malice on their part.
I think Anonymous is CyberCubed, he just LOVES to put down Misty and belittle her.
Food for thought. I think it’s kind of fascinating how almost all the girls that fell in love with Ash are the ones he helped during times of distress: Latias, Angie, Macy, Serena. I think the only girls that don’t fit into this pattern are Anabel and Misty.
What’s fascinating about Misty is that… I don’t ever recall her being saved by Ash like the other girls who crush on him. In fact, Misty has been the one to buck the trend in the opposite direction by saving him. She once saved him by fishing him out of the river when he was being chased by Spearow and also saved him during the Shamouti incident.
Misty, showing that you don’t need to be a damsel in distress to be a romantic interest since 1997.
Ash actually saved her more than a few times, though that being said, Misty if anything was the one who saved HIM first, and also saved him about as many times as he did her.

Imagine Harley trying to enter a Pokemon performer contest and throwing a tantrum when he finds out he can’t, so he ruins the entire competition.
Personally, I find it GOOD he can't perform. He already wrecked the idea that Contests were gender equal with his mannerisms, anyway.
Same, May.
Sad thing is, this was the first instance of her participating in a Contest, and while skipping the Gym class as well upon hearing of it.
Benedicion, aka, MistyShrine, and more specifically her old account MistyFan101, showed this off on her old Twitter account (with the only difference being that the subtitles described a written exam, not a pop quiz), and boy did SHE have an earful against May as usual (and can't say I blame her, that was just low, even lower than the Hinata Inn dorm girls from Love Hina, aka Naru and her posse. At least they would have STUCK with the written exams regardless of difficulty just to get into Tokyo University).
This is why I felt Serena's getting into showcases was written MUCH better than this regarding her similar arc.
