If you wanted to tell this story, then there are way more effective ways to do that such as having a first person limited perspective or showing the "reality" of their world through the canon interactions between characters outside of Magne's view.

Like, this is a cop out. A really bad cop out.

Who is Saxa if they never really interacted like that? Who is Fjor or Vidar or Ran? Who is Laurits? Who is Wotan and Iman and Harry? Or anyone really? By revealing this, we're being explicitly told that we don't really know them at all.

There are too many scenes that simply cannot exist inside Magne's mind because Magne wasn't there and they influence their characterization and plot development outside of Magne. Unless you're trying to say even that's all one maladaptive daydream...

And if that's true then why is Magne maladaptive daydreaming about the intimate lives of characters he doesn't think about or regularly interact with in the "real" world. (I am a maladaptive daydreamer. This is not how any of this works.)
