I watched my brother over the past 2 or so years slowly push all of his loved ones away and drink himself to death. I held his hand as I watched him die in the hospital. I live alone now and have been doing my best to clean up the mess he left behind. I am truly alone. Everyone has already moved on. All the people who said they would be there whenever no matter what have already switched back over as if everything is normal. My parents poke and prod at me constantly as if I can give them any answers. I am truly alone.

I think too often people forget that “they” is as much a pronoun as any of the others, and it isn’t as neutral as you want it to be.

I accept it as a useful default (and I use it that way myself), but once a person has told you their preferences, you GOTTA stop using they/them if it’s not on the list. please. this isn’t me trying to make anyone feel bad but it’s at a point where I’m misgendered more in “inclusive” spaces than literally anywhere else

Very explicitly, in the video, the regular police straight up lie to the couple, telling them they will go to jail for harboring a fugitive if they dont hand the doordasher over, and that it doesnt matter if ice has a warrant for her arrest. NEITHER OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE. You CANNOT be harboring a fugitive if the person you are haboring doesnt have a warrant out for their arrest! The warrant is what makes them a fugitive!

If ice wants access to someone on your property, do NOT hand them over unless you are shown a warrant signed by a judge! Make as much noise as you can to attract bystanders - it was the fact that a crowd gathered and started yelling at them that made ice leave in the video. And DO NOT expect the regular police to help you - they are just another arm of the state and will only do or say whatever they think is necessary to make you comply.

And make sure you film everything so you have evidence of what really happened if ice tries to enter your property illegally.

Police take fiscal oxygen out of the room, away from actual social support programs. The money spent on policing could go to housing, nutritional services, healthcare, civil rights, building inspections, labor rights enforcement, street maintenance, public transportation. But it goes to paying guys to sit around idling Ford Explorers all day and hitting poor people with sticks.

I think that if you are going to ask a person who has raised no concerns about her safety with you if she has any concerns about her safety then you need to be prepared to articulate why you’re asking her that because your answer might be just “racism” or “woman scared???” and if you can’t provide a satisfactory answer she’s going to think you know something she doesn’t and you’re just not willing to tell her, which is more unnerving than her actual situation was before, and if your answer is just “racism” or “woman scared???” then you don’t need to bring it up at all
