observation as the youngest child and daughter: mothers desperately want their elder daughter’s and son’s approval. ask me how i know🫠
having a hometown is such a fucked up concept. i grew up here so i do not want to stay here anymore. i miss it when i am away but once i am back i realise why i wanted to go away as far as possible from it. i am familiar with every corner of this place i did not realise when it slowly changed into something unrecognisable. i would probably like to be buried here but i'd rather die than live here
blessed because:
Yesterday, i had the perfect day🍒
I woke up early this morning and had a sale on Poshmark! I got it packaged up and dropped it off at the post office before work. I’m making $6!
It’s nice knowing where you stand with others. Notes are being taken and space is being given😌
if i could marry a foam roller…i think i would

blessed because:
I’m turning 31 today💋
I’m slowing my mind down and placing myself in the actual moment. Everything is actually fantastic and i am thoroughly blessed
I’m getting a big ol platter of sushi today🍱
It’s cloudy and around 70ish degrees, so i might go on a nice, long walk to take advantage of the cool weather before it gets sweltering again🌤️
Goals for 31:
12 3 30 5x per week — MUST
Arm and glute workouts— need to look more into hypermobile workouts and how to literally start at ground zero
Physically writing and journaling more. For personal documentation and also a creative outlet
Smiling even more!
Listening to more music (is that even possible lol) but i have two Madonna albums i want to listen to and also i need to get into Janet Jackson
Less screen time
Drawing and writing in cursive more. I like how it slows me down and i have to really connect my hand to my brain. I can improve so much!
Foam rolling more
Dancing more
Reading more
Complete decluttering and cleaning of every area. Its a marathon, not a sprint
Thinking less of the past and the future. Existing and thinking only in the present moment
just saw this personal ad from 1966 (sourced here) and god. this is really it
blessed because:
It’s Friday💋
I had a good week
Birthday is incoming
Life is great!
blessed because:
It’s Thursday
I was able to put some new skills to the test at work.
I’m practicing overall awareness and observation of my thoughts. Being detached from them allows me to see them for what they actually are; just thoughts!
“Is this thought helping me in any way?” This has been a very good question for when i am finding myself going on autopilot. It helps me slow down and actually assess what thoughts are coming in and why they would be popping up.
after a suicide attempt in 2016
“When Daddy comes in, he carries you to bed. Is there anything you feel like you could eat, Pokey? Anything at all? All you can imagine putting in your mouth is a cold plum, one with really tight skin on the outside but gum-shocking sweetness inside. And he and your mother discuss where he might find some this late in the season. Mother says hell I don’t know. Further north, I’d guess. The next morning, you wake up in your bed and sit up. Mother says, Pete, I think she’s up. He hollers in, You ready for breakfast, Pokey. Then he comes in grinning, still in his work clothes from the night before. He’s holding a farm bushel. The plums he empties onto the bed river toward you through folds in the quilt. If you stacked them up, they’d fill the deepest bin at the Piggly Wiggly. Damned if I didn’t get the urge to drive to Arkansas last night, he says. Your mother stands behind him saying he’s pure USDA crazy. Fort Smith, Arkansas. Found a roadside stand out there with a feller selling plums. And I says, Buddy, I got a little girl sick back in Texas. She’s got a hanker for plums and ain’t nothing else gonna do. It’s when you sink your teeth into the plum that you make a promise. The skin is still warm from riding in the sun in Daddy’s truck, and the nectar runs down your chin. And you snap out of it. Or are snapped out of it. Never again will you lay a hand against yourself, not so long as there are plums to eat and somebody-anybody-who gives enough of a damn to haul them to you. So long as you bear the least nibblet of love for any other creature in this dark world, though in love portions are never stingy. There are no smidgens or pinches, only rolling abundance. That’s how you acquire the resolution for survival that the coming years are about to demand. You don’t earn it. It’s given.”
excerpt from Cherry by Mary Karr, context being after a suicide attempt at age 13
Some context: Texas and Arkansas share a corner border. Now, Texas is FECKING HUGE and there are many, many parts of Texas that cannot visit Arkansas overnight, but there are parts where it’s no trouble at all.
However, those places of Texas that are close to Arkansas, do not include “close to Fort Smith, Arkansas.”
The closest Texas gets to Fort Smith is about 185 miles (about 300km), at “a little closer than Texarkana.” (Dallas, fwiw, is about 275 miles/450km from Fort Smith.)
So the dad in this story drove at least SEVEN HOURS round trip, to pick up a bushel of plums for his little girl, in the hope that some almost-out-of-season fruit would convince her to go on living.
Okay.
It’s bigger than this.
According to Wikipedia, the poet Mary Karr was born in 1955 and grew up in Groves, Texas and “lived there until she moved to Los Angeles in 1972.” So she would have been there when she was 13 and attempted suicide.
According to Google Maps, the shortest driving distance between Groves, TX and Fort Smith, AR is 439 miles (or 706 km for metric using folks).
That’s almost 8 hours of driving.
Almost 16 hours roundtrip.
(I assume he broke every speed limit he could.)
That’s how much this man loved his daughter.
May we all be worthy of such love.
May we all be capable of giving such love.
May we all have people in our lives with which we can share this love.

blessed because:
I had a slow start to my morning, which was very nice.
I’m limiting my TikTok time today. Once i open that app, that’s the entire day for me.
I’m feeling quite sore
I’m looking forward to eating today lmao
blessed because:
Yesterday was a really good day! I think it’s because i stayed off of tiktok for the majority of the day and read a book about overthinking and rumination during the down time.
Working on detaching from my thoughts and being more observant of them instead
The book talked about two places: “Here and Now” and “Elsewhere”. Overthinkers and ruminators live in Elsewhere, which creates anxiety and worrying. Living in Here and Now, allows you to be present in the moment, which is the only thing we really ever have; the here and now. We don’t have the future and we don’t have the past. Here and Now is the only place we can actually ever be in. I’m going to finish the book today, which I am happy about!
I’m working from home today
Self - listen up!!
Some is better than none. Some is better than none. Some is better than none. Walking for three minutes, is better than nothing. Drinking a glass of water and eating a snack, is better than nothing. Wiping down the counter, is better than nothing. Small things are not nothing. Small things are not nothing. Small things are not nothing. You don’t have to achieve grand things if all you’re capable of right now is the smaller things. They are still achievements. Don’t do nothing just because you don’t think you’re capable of doing bigger things, just do something you’re capable of today.
