The voice actor here sounds so fucking sad when this SOLDIER says this. They liked Angeal's jokes! They liked listening to Genesis read them LOVELESS! They're coming to terms with the idea that neither will be coming back!

This is why I get annoyed when people talk shit about Genesis as a character. By all accounts, he was a lauded and well-liked SOLDIER who cracked under the pressure of finding out his real origins much like Sephiroth would end up doing a few years later.
