"Sticks are dumb" -xion

Riku thinking Kairi will be the key to finding Sora, being shocked that fairy godmother wants to use his dreams, etc, has all been chocked up to Riku thinking Sora's happy ending belongs with Kairi.

But we don't know what the true consequence of abusing the power of waking is. It doesn't seem like Riku remembers the sacrifice, and Sora definitely doesn't so whatever the consequence is seems to involve those two.

So what if Riku's side of their bond was also affected? It's hard to believe he would forget all of his love for Sora without a whole castle oblivion level of tampering, but the...feelings of it could be messed with.

If he forgot the sacrifice, he literally forgot he has the strength to protect what matters. I think it's possible he also could have forgotten about Sora literally following his heart to him in the RoD. Maybe forgot about their gayblade attack. And no Riku would not have taken these things romantically, but they are a testament to how strong their bond is. How he and Sora's hearts are so deeply connected.

What I'm getting at is that Riku is surprised he needs to go save Sora because he forgot how strong their bond actually is. Or dare I say, MAYBE he forgot exactly how much Sora means to him.

And let's say Sora in Quadratum DOES have more of his memories, and he believes that Riku will come save him. And when riku does Sora is so overjoyed and more "I knew you'd find me" and Riku is kind of like "huh? Why? We tried to use Kairi but fairy godmother needed my dreams, isn't that weird?" And Sora is like "??????"
