A personal history of Kingdom Hearts art
Since I've been riddled with nostalgia lately, I thought it might be interesting as well as entertaining to others, to see the gradual evolution of how my KH fanart has progressed through time and along with the series.
There had been various scribbles in notebooks before, but the real start of my fanart journey begins from a piece drawn in early September of 2007, still at the height of the craze following Kingdom Hears II, which I consider to be the first ever real fanart I'd drawn.
2015 - 2018
Here we have a noticeable gap in activity. For around three years I don't blog or publicly post about Kingdom Hearts and am fully occupied in other fandoms even though I still produce fanart for the series steadily. I just simply don't post it anywhere and it remains unseen. Around 2018 I get my first drawing tablet, and it inspires me to start a new sideblog here, on tumblr, called luxmoogle. And so, I start blogging and posting art into the fandom once again, digital enabling a faster pace of producing art.
From around 2022 onwards, I've become a fully digital artist when it comes to KH fanart, because of the ease of producing such art at a much faster pace compared to traditional art. The need to get all my thoughts and concepts out of my head has become a priority, even though I consider traditional and a more methodical way of making art to be more natural to me. The shift to digital has been very interesting and pleasantly challenging, since it requires a whole different approach and thinking than traditional, which I had to that point been doing my whole life. A pattern I only now recognize, is the latest phase, where I've obviously started looking at the piece more as a whole, and less of a character piece with a flattering background. It'll be interesting to see, where my hands and heart take me next.
Do you think the Chi saga deserves a remake, or a movie?
Personally, I find beauty in that which is lost. When it began we knew it would end and exist only for awhile, and I find it very fitting to the whole experience of it and with the themes of the story.
The only reason I see for remakes or re-tellings are for the newer fans who might have not been there to experience it in time, since without it, they have quite a major gap in understanding the story.
How do you feel about Missing Link becoming, well, the missing link in KH's chain?
I wasn't shocked at all, I think I felt the scrapping coming ever since it was announced, it was very unusual for them to talk like that about anything that was such a work in progress. Almost like they were trying to showcase what they could while the bigger picture was being hidden.
I have a feeling either something in the plans drastically changed not for just Missing Link but the whole coming saga and/or there's aspects of it that will be written in or fused with future installments.
I seem to be overwhelmed by emotion.
You know, sometimes I feel like I keep holding onto a time gone by.
I came across a blog that was very prominent years ago, and I started digging through their archives, noticing how their presence slowly faded away, posts dwindling. This took me to a rabbit hole of nostalgia throughout other blogs and people who used to be here, used to be so lively. To other sites, to see where they are now, how they've been. And what struck me is how so many, really everyone has let go, they've moved onto something else, or just faded off to obscurity as a whole.
How time passes by. "How fast the night changes", indeed. How a hub of familiar faces that one takes for granted in the moment has somehow disappeared. You feel like it's forever, that moment will last forever.. ..until you've traveled far away from where you started. But here I am. Still.
Nostalgia is a heavy, though partially pleasant, weight. Seeing something so familiar that reminds you of a place and time long ago, where you cannot go even if your heart yearns, you can only remember. My heart aches.
And I think that's why Kingdom Hearts will always be so dear to me, and why I never seem to let go, never completely leave. It represents something in my soul that is fixed to a point in time that is my deepest, truest self. For this is my Destiny Islands, this is where I come to, from all the heartaches, happiness and adventure of all my years and life, I always head home, to the shores of destiny.
Like my heart has washed up on that shore, forever to be pushed and pulled by those waves.
But I can still hear it, the comforting lull, the sound of waves.

What’s your thoughts of Kh4 so far?
My thoughts are that I don't really have many thoughts about it at all. There's been very little information about the future and I'm not really someone who speculates in advance, we'll have answers when it arrives. Nor do I try to find the answers from what's already been. I usually spend my time mulling over the existing parts, since there's still endless amounts of things to ponder over.
The only thing I have really thought about is the direction in style, I expect the new saga to start veering off of the previous style and feel, out of the magical fantasy and maybe towards more of a modern vibe. I think the signs have been in the air for awhile, but we'll see!
stumbled on your kh art especially the ones with sora + disney character interactions and it gave me the anime equivalent of white floaties everywhere because of the nostalgia like the heart of kingdom hearts when i first played it being sora and his friends from all over the world i don’t know… those friendships being visualized in your art genuinely made me start crying so thank u
How sweet~❤ I think it's the novelty of having Final Fantasy-esque characters interact with the Disney characters that really brought most people in originally, and I think the first KH has an air to it that none of the later series has. I always long for that dark fairytale feeling of KH1, of meeting all these whimsical characters and getting lost in their worlds for a moment, the nostalgia is strong!
