every so often i remember that most people probably dont know what i refer to when i mention my friend, the floating buffalo shaman who has no religion.

my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government

this is getting really popular so i’d like to add the important caveat that your criticism of a work is no more unassailable than the work itself. just as one is entitled to be critical of something someone else is entitled to disagree with that criticism. i add this because some of you pretend to give a fuck about thoughtful analysis and then when someone points out flaws in your argument you declare that all criticisms are valid. this is untrue. the status of a hater is no more sacred than that of a liker. get off your high horse and engage in the thoughtful discussion you pretend to believe in or perish by my blade

I feel like not enough people realize that people under enormous strain act really really fucking Weird

its cool how every language has wordplay.... we created language like ok step 1) convey info so we can stay alive 2) get silly with it

Okay but this is actually one of the most useful things you learn in creative writing workshops! Namely: Not all of the feedback you get is going to be useful! In fact, most of it isn’t! What you’re looking for are the people who vibe with your work and understand what you’re going for. Those are the people who can help you make your work better! But if you try to please everyone? Then you’re stripping out what makes your story uniquely yours. You’re stripping out what’s going to challenge and resonate with your audience. So don’t ever try to appeal to a wider audience! If you want those diehard fans who are going to follow your catalogue, let your work be weird. Lean into what you love about it. That’s what’s going to stick with your audience at the end of the day.

Genuinely insufferable that the UK has this upper-middle journalist class that get to endlessly pontificate their horrible opinions to the point it seeps into public consciousness.

I love that Leverage really goes out of it’s way to show us that just because you break the ‘rules’, it doesn’t mean you’re breaking the rules. Rules and laws and society are all made up, at the end of the day, and all you really have is your own moral compass and sense of justice; is this just to you? Is it right? Should it be OK for companies to put people in insurmountable debt for the rest of their lives just because our medical care is so expensive in this modern day and age? No law or rule should change what you know in your heart is right and wrong, and I think that’s the key thing that makes someone a good person in my eyes.

There was a massive shift in how our culture understood morality when, after World War II, the general public realized “just following orders” was not an excuse for crimes against humanity. Now we need another moral shift in which we decide, as a culture, that “for the benefit of the stockholders” is not an excuse for anything.

When you get more objective about the way nature is & away from weird anthropomorphic carnivore slander it is a little funny when the baby sea turtles hatch and every other animal in like a ten mile radius goes "oh fuck yum one million mini sliders"

Watching a jaguar casually walk up to an adult sea turtle headed back to the water after laying her eggs and eat it like why am I in my sea turtle violence era and why are they like this. Adult sea turtles aren't especially easy to eat in the water they'll swim around with shark bites taken out of them like they're just chillin. And then on land they just kinda

Also today I learned that since the jaguar scares off other smaller predators it's actually good for the sea turtle population if there are jaguars there. Cause less babies get eaten by Everything Else. I'm gonna be honest I didn't even consider that a jaguar could be on the beach
