Im mainly thinking of Marshall’s early career, before he became the first Black Supreme Court Justice. He was a traveling attorney for the NAACP, and won 29 of the 32 civil rights cases he took against the Supreme Court, including ending “Separate But Equal” doctrine via Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 and resulted in a ruling that segregation was unconstitutional.

He was a master of using the words of the system against itself to force it to lose by its own rules, often being able to use existing sociological data to prove the ways that Black people were not just being discriminated against, but were being disproportionally harmed by segregation. He was responsible for releasing a large amount of legal shackles placed on Black people in the US as a whole, though he did focus hard on school desegregations - in part because he had been rejected from schools on account of being Black himself, including Maryland’s state law school.

This is obviously a brief summary, but this is the kind of person trans women need fighting for us specifically right now. Who knows the fucking pains of how we are treated and the horrific segregation, discrimination, and danger trans women face personally. The system aint gonna *save* us but having people do their best to toss a wrench in the gears killing us Officially and slowing things down means even one more person might survive, and even one more person surviving than would otherwise is a win.

I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.

I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.

This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.

Ive been genderqueer for awhile and on T. I knew it'd change aspects of my sex for sure. It's been pretty good changes so far, but I do honestly kind of miss menstruation. Ik it's weird to say. It was just smth that didnt bother me. (Despite the health issues I had because of it).

Ik I could "get it back" by just stopping T, but the T is necessary for me. And Ik I'm privileged in having that option. And its no no way similar to what transfems go through.

I just wish transfems had that option, too. To be able to have the body and all the aspects that come with it that they want.

I appreciate you sharing this, because many of us do have comparable relationships with menstruation that even I am frankly afraid to admit to anyone, because the concept of desiring it is near unanimously derided in trans women

the thing about a person's feelings about their body, especially as they relate to gender, sex characteristics, and dysphoria, is that none of it's based in rational calculation. if it were about "well it would be useful if my body were like this instead of this," then we wouldn't transition in the first place because of how enormously disempowering it is to expose yourself to transphobia. the math wouldn't math

trans women know that menstruating isn't fun, we're reminded all the damn time as a way of "putting us in our place." that knowledge doesn't tend to stop us from having a deep internal desire for our bodies to work the way that feels right to us, no different from why we want to have any other feature like softer skin or less body hair

deriding trans women for wanting to menstruate in a typical way or wanting to be able to carry children, as if we somehow don't know these things are hard, just furthers the myth that we transition because we ran the math and decided what the most advantageous combination of parts was. no, it's not a logical, rational calculation like that. I know it makes absolutely no sense for me to want to menstruate in a typical way, and yet that will never stop it from being a real and distressingly powerful feeling. dysphoria has never bent to logical arguments

even if she doesn't "try to pass" she still deserves the same basic respect you give everybody else.

Neovaginas are beautiful, real, oftentimes come with few or easily solvable complications, and for some women, are the ideal way to alleviate bottom dysphoria.
