Not to add to this hours later but to elaborate:
It's Alan and the pager he carries for twenty years in the vain hope it'll go off again, and still being disappointed when it does actually ring. It's also him holding the line at a corporation that hates him and what he stands for for over twenty years and never being able to move past another person's dreams that he holds onto so strongly as though they're his own.
It's Sam, slowly in five year intervals almost like a bad curse, losing every parental and guardian figure he's ever had until the only one left is Alan, and even then he pushes that relationship away because he can't bare the thought of not only losing Alan too, but also being seen by Alan as an extension of the father that abandoned him. It's all the ways he tries to distance himself from Flynn, but ultimately the thing he will always be most known for is every way that he's tied to his father and how he really is his son, even when he doesn't want to be, even when it hurts him to be.
It's Yori, who was either abandoned and trapped away when Lora left
Encom who's now directionless and without a purpose. Or, it's the fact that she's whole, but incomplete emotionally, because the program she's paired to is long gone and will never return to her, not in the way she once knew him to be.
It's Quorra, who lost her entire people in one fell swoop and has to live eternally with the knowledge that she's the last, and the only. The unique ways in that she can never fully fit back into the world that birthed her because the part of it that gave her life is dead by a tyrants hand, and the fact that the person who she ends up spending thousands of years side by side with is the only one who could have prevented all of this and didn't, and having to live with that while still being grateful to him for at least saving you, if no one else.
It's Tron, who not only lost his partner program and never got her back, but who also lost his entire life, his autonomy and his very person to a program who he was meant to be able to trust unconditionally, who wore the face of his best friend. It's the fact that even if he's alive after all that he's been through, he will never be able to undo all of the harm he's caused, the lives he's taken when he was an unwilling puppet, and the fact that he will have to live with those memories for the rest of his runtime, if said runtime even exists.
It's Clu, who only ever wanted more attention from the User who created him, who felt neglected and abandoned and took the directive he was given to it's worst possible conclusion in an attempt to chase said attention, at the cost of everything they'd previously built together even when he knew he'd be hated for it, because any attention was better than none at all.
And at the bottom of it all, its Flynn. Flynn who lost Jordan too early, who subsequently refused to ever open up to anyone to ask for help in how to deal with that grief, who turned inward and spent too much time doing everything and nothing for the Grid until it was too little too late, who didn't realize the severity of what he'd given up until he lost it for good. And it's still Flynn when he gets the very brief hope that maybe he can undo it, maybe something can be fixed or salvaged, and having that ripped out from under him once he realizes the scale of what he's wrought in his supposed digital utopia that was never much of a utopia to begin with when looked at through an unbiased lens. It's him having to give that up in the hopes his death can at least save his son, because he lost him once, and he's not about to lose him a second time if he can help it.
