I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this response, to be honest. The entire paragraph, but especially this line. Because, whether we like it or not, we tend to treat people in society who don’t know Jesus as Christians who have fallen away–regardless of whether or not they were Christians in the first place–and need to come back to their sense and smarten up.

But that’s not the case. That’s never been the case. For that to be the case, those people would have had to have been found, but they never were. We act like that because they know Jesus’ name they’ve seen and been in the light, fellowshipped with the light, but they haven’t. They’re still stumbling around in the darkness.

People who are lost aren’t Christians who need to be corrected with truth, they’re lost people who need to be approached from a position of grace. Like how Jesus approached the tax collectors.
