Guardians of the Underworld

Gate guardian deities from the realm of the Underworld, detail of the 3rd guided shrine of Tutankhamun, decorated with scenes from the ‘Book of the Dead’ to aid the king’s journey after death. 

Carnelian Lion Ring

In ancient Egypt, people wear carnelian to ward off the Evil Eye and instill peace. The ancient Egyptians called carnelian “the setting sun”. 

Carnelian, however, is a semi-precious stone that was used frequently by the Egyptians of all social classes, through Dynastic Egypt till the Roman period. Sources mention of one mine, found in Egypt, which would have supplied carnelian from the Middle Kingdom. 

Diadem of Princess Khenmet

A gold crown of Princess “Khnemet”, daughter of King “Amenemhat II”. This masterpiece was found in the tomb of “Khnemet” and her sister “Ita” in Dahshur. The crown is made of a network of interlaced gold wires that entangle nearly 200 small flowers, each with a carnelian eye and five turquoise-inlaid petals. The wires are tied to three pins on each side of five ‘crosses’, which are actually five clusters of lotus blossoms, and terminate at a pair of rings on the back of a sixth ‘cross’.

Ancient Egyptian Amulets

Amulet of Uraeus, Taweret, Bes, Usekh collar, Nefer glyph, Hathor’s head and Nekhbet vulture. Made out of electrum, silver and gold. 

The Lady of the sky, the one who fills the sanctuary with joy, she who is adorned with stars: Hathor!

This new moon Hathor will travel from her home in Dendra to meet Horus in Edfu for a great marriage and celebration! A Beautiful Reunion indeed! Here is a quick sketch I made of her in all her dancing and happiness.
