I wanted to ask bout ur zombie AU... did Steve and Billy actually survive? I know it’s meant to be an open ending, but… could you maybe share a little hint? When I saw “He it shows no reaction to ‘I love you’” I couldn’t sleep (´;ω;`)

Please tell me they both made it out alive!! pls!!!

Honestly I dont want to reveal too much abt this story. Before I said it had an open ending I’d actually come up w a lot of different endings for it.

To satisfy the curiosity i can give y a few vague versions. But I do want to emphasize that this story rly is meant to have an open ending, so you can imagine it however you want. These r just for reference;)

Ending 1: The Good Ending

Everyone thought the ending was obvious. Steve was dead, Billy had lost himself completely, and neither of them had made it out.

But they were wrong. Steve had known for a long time that no one out there was going to save Billy. Most people wanted him dead. So Steve destroyed most of the logs and staged the shelter to look like a disaster scene.

What he found after they went on the run wasn’t a cure, not really. It was a suppressant, something that could stabilize the infection. Billy was left with permanent traces of it: sometimes his words caught in his throat, dark veins still lingered beneath his skin. He might never look or sound the way he once had.

But he was himself again. Clear enough to love Steve, steady enough to stop himself, and human enough to choose to stay. They never got their old lives back, but they both survived.

Ending 2: The Fire

The shelter had burned. The cage was empty. Drag marks cut across the floor. The room was blackened with soot, the walls and floor scarred by fire. In one corner lay a mass of charred bone and ash, too damaged to identify by sight.

Later, DNA testing confirmed it hadn’t been one body, but two. Billy Hargrove and Steve Harrington.

Before death, one of them had held the other for a long time. The fire spread. By the end, all that remained was ash that could no longer be separated into one from the other.

Ending 3: The Reversal

They found a camera in the shelter with a few damaged recordings still on it. The footage was blurry and incomplete, but once it was pieced together everyone went still.

The person inside the cage hadn’t been Billy. It had been Steve.

Billy brought food and water to the cage and kept watch by the door at night. Later, the search team found dead infected all around the camp, some had bat wounds, others clearly torn apart by infected people.

The footage seemed to suggest that Billy wasn’t acting at random. He was repeating what Steve had once done for him: locking the door, bringing food, standing watch, keeping danger away.

So it can be inferred that Billy took Steve away. Because he thought this place was dangerous for Steve.

Ending 4: Infected

“I think I might be infected.

Ending 5: Forty Years After Steve Vanished

After the apocalypse ended, a vaccine was developed and the cities were rebuilt. Decades later, the descendants of the survivors built a museum over the ruins to preserve the memory of the outbreak’s earliest days.

One wall of the museum was dedicated to Hawkins. In the center display case sat damaged logs, a rusted lighter, a cracked Walkman, and a handful of small objects stained and worn beyond recognition.

Only one photograph seemed untouched. In it, two young men were laughing in front of a Camaro.

The placard beside it read:

“Steve Harrington and Billy Hargrove, Hawkins, Indiana.

Last confirmed sighting: 1986.

The prevailing view is that Billy Hargrove died in the early stage of infection, while Steve Harrington’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Over the decades, there have been repeated claims of two men seen walking side by side through ruins in different parts of the country. None of the follow-up searches produced verifiable evidence.

The most recent reported sighting occurred ten years ago in California. An elderly survivor claimed she saw two young figures at the mouth of an abandoned tunnel, ‘as if they had stepped out of an old photograph,’ holding hands before disappearing into the darkness.

This report remains unverified.”

I’ve been rewatching a lot of zombie/apocalypse movies lately, like shaun of the dead, night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, world war z, i am legend, Zombieland, 28 days later… y can pretty much imagine this story in any of those universes.

I came up with a storyline for this AU. tho idk if I’ll ever draw it, im leaving Steve’s log here ⬇️

Stiff movement but fast as hell. Aggressive. Super hostile to everyone else.

Barely any human awareness left…Might still remember me? No idea.

Sometimes it just goes dead quiet. Other times it snaps and tries to kill me.

Will reacts to certain words(names, mostly) It’ll start snarling n thrashing.

Keeps coughing up this black fluid. No clue what it is yet. Looks like dark blood mixed with… organs or something? Since idk if it’s infectious. I Burned all of it.

Afraid of fire.

So the story goes like: Billy gets infected. To stop the others from killing him, Steves forced to hide him away and keeps searching for a way to fix it. But Steve’s logs stop after around forty days. People found what was left of Steve’s logs while searching for him (most of them had already assumed Billy was dead). A lot of the pages were missing, or too damaged to read. The shelter Steve had been staying in was almost empty, just some leftover canned food, a large cage(probably used to keep Billy). The floor was covered in black stains, mixed with burn marks. No one knows what happened after that.
