I dont really agree that obikin could never work out or be happy long term I do think it would always be kind of dysfunctional but I dont think these ideas necessarily have to conflict with each other
i agree with you 100%, and i think there should be a distinction between toxic and non-toxic dysfunction. the latter doesn’t necessarily have to be detrimental to the overall dynamic of a relationship, and it could even be beneficial to both parties and add a bit of spice, for lack of a better way to put it. but it’s a very thin line to walk either way.
people tend to judge obikin as potentially romantically dysfunctional based on how they see anakin and obi-wan interact in the movies/novels. and they’re right in saying that they’re dysfunctional in many respects even without the romantic element. if, of course, this unacknowledged romantic element isn’t the very thing causing all the issues in the first place. so yes, they’re dysfunctional because they’ve never properly learned to address and process anything that’s happened between them. they’re dysfunctional because they’ve built so many walls over the years that they’re unable (and perhaps unwilling — because ego, because pride, guilt, etc.; take your pick) to see what’s on the other side, constantly feeding a negative emotional loop of hurt, anger, resentment, and so on (and that’s just boiling it down to the basics). there’s so much tension and so much left unsaid between them that they’re choking on it. and how else is that going to manifest if not in a toxic way?
so, all in all, i don’t think a romantic relationship between them would necessarily have to be dysfunctional in a negative sense at all, if they were willing to acknowledge what it is they want from each other and just fucking COMMUNICATE. well, wasn’t the central problem with them always that they don’t know how to ask each other for what they want without confronting the BIG MAIN ISSUE? precisely. and what’s the big main issue? that they want something more, perhaps…
went on a little rant there, sorry
one of the many reasons to insist upon chronological timelines is that it's much, much harder to scroll forever if you can catch up with yourself. if you can run out of tumblr because you reach yesterday, that is a good and helpful prompt to do something else.
*pointing to your political protégé* you know that thing would eat you if you died, right?

in this dark age of censorship, remember that if ovid managed to stay a pervert during the moralising tyranny of the augustan age, you can do the same now. don't worry about what happened to him next

I love consuming the most traumatizing content like it's a light snack :>
On a more serious note, horror enthusiasts need to start joining the profic movement before it's too late. Horror is, in my opinion, inherently anti-censorship. When puritans start to "sanitize" all our "problematic" content, it won't just be fetish stuff, it'll be horror too. I've already seen pro-censorship narratives being pushed in horror spaces. Horror is about freedom of expression, not squeaky clean cheap scares!

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension (1984)
I want you guys to all start making a bigger stink about Tumblr's Age Verification Horseshit.
Like they tried to change Reblogs and people rightfully got up in arms, this is a LOT worse. In order to have access to any sort of thing dubbed mature, and We haveALL seen what they think is mature, Everything from a black and white photo of a black woman's arm, to posts about IUD recalls, to a nude painted by a 17th century artist, to anything involving the word Trans; you have to send your personal information to a third party site that WILL get hacked, and you will be doxxed. And they can say "Oh shit, well it wasn't us who sent your name address and gender identity to Moldovan teenagers, here's a couple extra minutes in the ball pit.
That's bad enough!!!!!!!! But the entire idea of needing permission from state authorities to access anything labeled mature by our friendly AI overlords is some fucking Boll shit. Die Gedenken Sind Frie baby. This is all a reaction to people getting uppity about their lowly lowly rights and is being propped up by the same bad actors tht have made life unlivable. Fuck that shit.
"Well it's only being rolled out in Brazil and UK" Yeah, to start. "Well they're being forced to do this by laws." YOu know it's always really funny when these tech giants (Or whatever you call owning tumblr dot com) get really antsy about laws considering they pick and choose which ones they abide by.
This is a breaking point and it's going to be very interesting to see how we proceed from here.
i get this now and it won't let me click through to any 'mature' blogs :(
technology is politics by other means
Age verification has never been and never will be for "the safety of children." It is to collect personal data, that could be used in nefarious ways, and mass surveil.
Please research and resist your countries bills to pass similar legislation. This isn't fear mongering but if you take a look at what is happening in the world right now-- with AI, palantir, and ICE databases, you'll understand why this is a terrible idea.
whenever they announce new star wars anthologies, on some level i am always thinking of the festivals in ancient greece that had poetry competitions, and you'd have a bunch of different bards coming into town and telling homeric stories. those rhapsodes would get to stand on stage and perform in front of an assembled crowd at a sanctioned community event, so their version of the story would have credibility and authority (unless they tell it 'wrong' enough that the audience doesn't like it). everybody who was there and heard the story now shares that story, so it's a common cultural token inside the community.
but there are of course hundreds and thousands of times that average people would tell homeric stories, while they were weaving, or around the campfire, or while on a ship, or any sort of small group. we know that at least some people would even roleplay as homeric figures in bed (looking @ you, alexander), and so would be telling stories just to and with their intimate partners. all of these private, inter-personal, non-authoritative stories are all homeric, but they're not the homer that survived, not the homer that was stamped with approval and given circulation by local authorities.
the question of who control the narrative of star wars is interesting when thinking about modern corporate, extractive intellectual property law. the corporation hosts the festival and ensures all the stories are based on a cohesive set of intellectual property assets. their relative authority is granted by being the stories that can generate profit, and so the 'real' ones, becoming circulated community tokens by virtue of this central authority. the corporation control the bards that get on stage, and so control the story that way.
but as a private citizen and fan of the star wars corpus writ large, i can listen to these stories and enjoy them, but they don't have the same authority to me that they might hold to other people. they're just telling one version of the story, with a louder mic and a bigger stage, but at this point imho they're no closer to homer (lucas in this case lol) than many amateur bards. if a rhapsode told a story about odysseus that had him doing something that you personally don't think odysseus would do, you can go on living, knowing that everyone else is familiar with the 'wrong' version, and tell it yourself, your way, to your friends.
so seeing new anthologies drop, i'm excited to go to the festival and see the bards tell the new stories and appreciate how those stories are nested inside a dense web of context and lore that adds more and more referential, inter-textual meaning. but if one of the stories feels like it doesn't 'fit' inside the mesh of star wars in my mind, i'm pretty comfy just letting it exist beside and around me, accepting that it's authoritative to most of the community, but not to me and my murmured stories at night lol

A reminder that darker fiction has a right to exist and explore themes that people are uncomfortable with. Yes, even if it's romanticized. Yes, even if you personally don't like it.
Authors have always written about things that they don't agree with morally, and I hope to god they always will, despite how shitty people treat them for doing that now.
The difference is that a fetish is bound to the floor while a kink is suspended from the ceiling
