Chapter 7 of things that we can't say tomorrow day
When Armand's books arrive on the doorstep, Louis and Lestat discover a threat to their rekindled comfort in the form of a note from the Paris Coven. Louis and Lestat take turns falling apart and stitching each other back up with one joining thread, the love they have for each other and their unborn child.
At this point, he let Louis take the lead, restrengthening his instincts and his footing in the city since so much had changed since he left. Truthfully, Lestat himself was still trying to get his bearings. The rat catcher, Felix he’d mentioned to Louis one night, had done most of his wandering the city for him. So, they walked.
His instinct was to drag Lestat up past Basin, into the area that used to be Storyville. But that was gone. The whole area was gone. He knew that.
Instead, they stuck to the quarter, lingering near the river, watching the tourists board a paddleboat in feathers and sequins, completing the cartoonish imagery of New Orleans. He spotted a pair of young men holding hands as they boarded, dancing to the jazz band in the evening air, something he hadn’t seen a great deal of in Dubai, forgetting the way the mortals had advanced some in the decades since he had expatriated. It was okay here. Safer. Certainly, more so than the last time he’d been with Lestat.
He slid his hand over top of his on the bench between them. Lestat looked over at him, a wordless question in his eyes. He nodded, letting him know that whatever he decided to do next was okay. Lestat took their coupled hands, his left arm fully extended around Louis, and pulled his husband in close so that he could rest his head on his chest like he was beginning to make habit when they lounged around the house. He’d done so when he first turned as well, seeming to find comfort in having his head so near to his heartbeat. The answer, in those days, had been flippant and feisty.
Now, it was different. He didn’t ask, but he seemed to know. There were days in coffin when Louis would wake from a nightmare, terrified that Lestat was gone. Finding him unconscious beneath him was only a small comfort, since frequently, the nightmares featured him dead or dying, so unconscious wasn’t a large help. So, he would lay, isolating his heartbeat, listening to it’s rhythm pound in time with his own until he fell back to sleep.
Lestat wrapped a second arm around him and pressed a kiss to his temple. The pair stayed entwined like that for an hour or so, just watching the mortals wander like they owned the night. But Lestat was too quiet for comfort. He’d stopped talking, stopped responding when Louis talked. Glancing over, he realized the stream of blood drips from his ear.
“Lestat, stop listening for the coven. I know that’s what you’re doing and they’re too far away. They’re in Paris.” He tried to make his words sound final, but the half dazed look on Lestat’s face made it clear that he wasn’t really listening. “You're gonna wear yourself out, baby, stop.” He twisted, shaking his husband back to the waking world. “Come on, now, Les. That’s enough.”

In the meantime...
I’m dressed in seconds flat and fidgeting with the wall where I know it opens, even if I can see no evidence of it. Once I’m in the hall, I come to the realization that there are no doors, just like the room I’ve been in. There’s no one around. No team. No direction. The first thought that crosses my mind is-
“Peeta!”
I call out for him a few times, pacing like a caged animal. I call out again. There’s a response, finally. Just not him.
It’s a voice that, at first grates at me, then prompts eagerness. I turn to the end of the hall and see them all waiting for me- Effie, Haymitch, and Cinna. Without a thought, I’m off at a run. I launch myself at Haymitch and he catches me with ease. “Nice job, sweetheart.” There’s not a hint of sarcasm. Effie pats my head, teary, talking about her glimmering pearls. Cinna wraps me in a tight hug. He doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t move. He doesn’t even flinch until I break the embrace. When I do, he pats my cheek and gives me a solemn nod.
It’s only then that I realize that Portia isn’t there. “Where’s Portia? Is she with Peeta? He’s- Is he okay? He’s alive, right? You’d tell me if-”
There’s a second arm around me. “He’s fine, Sweetheart. They want to get your reunion live on air. That’s all.” I can feel Haymitch turn his head to look at Effie. Her pitiful, wordless sniffle is all I needed to see.
“Oh,” I say, letting the last of the dread wash away. “Oh. If that’s all,” I say. The awful moment of thinking Peeta’s dead again passes. “I guess I’d want to see that myself,” I say, remembering that this is all probably going to be on air.
Haymitch brushes my hair behind my ear and nods. “Go on with Cinna. He has to get you ready,” says Haymitch as he passes me off to him. Cinna is a different kind of protective. I know now that the gruff voice fighting off the doctors was absolutely Haymitch. He’s angry and wild, the way a victor must be with their tributes. But Cinna is different. It feels more solemn, like he realizes the deep level of depravity among The Capitol Elite because he’s a part of their inner circles. There’s a worry in his eyes as he takes me far up to the twelfth floor to my prep team, skirting the photographers in the lobby with expert precision, keeping my face tucked into his chest.
Alright. I took some time away and really thought about whether or not I wanted to post this. I'm giving it another shot, trying to get myself to believe it's still worth it to post my writing. So, I'm going in with a Canon fix it/what if/Canon divergent hunger games series to get the creative juices flowing.
Essentially, what we have here, for See A World is a "what if Katniss had like 2 points more emotional intelligence and two points less extreme distrust" and also I have some things I wanted to hit with a mallet and smooth out.
This is going to be part of a massive undertaking rewrite of all 3. For the most part, See A World Beautiful And Strange will be utilizing and twisting canon the heaviest. There will be large chunks of dialogue yanked from the text as well as some reworking to give more ... reliability to Katniss as a narrator.

I'm really put off by the idea of writing right now. Like... do i even bother when everything I've done in the last 13 years all of my progress, all of my ideas, someone stole and intrapolated with someone else's stuff, put it into a blender and everyone who goes "Hey, Ai overlords, write me a fic about richie and eddie in the hunger games where richie had to mentor Eddie" and it just spits something out because I've written a starter to that. I'd been meaning to go back to it but now?
Whats this? Amanda's mental health is spiralling so she writes a new fic and a chapter of an abandoned one in the span of a week? In February? Its like its a cycle or something...

i think part of why i stalled on wmlg? (apart from the messages i was getting calling me gross for writing mpreg) was that i didn't have a conflict. sonia's in jail. eddie knows he's pregnant so he's not worried he's sick. stan helped eddie find a job that wasn't going to be douchey about the baby. it was just a fluffy little slice of life and i struggle with that if i don't have a point i'm working towards.
