people who for very silly reasons want to market prepared food products without preservatives in them who then discover why we started putting preservatives in prepared food products in the first place (because without a preservation method food quickly grows stale, and frequently also moldy or downright toxic) is a consistently good bit. like people really seem to think we put Evil Chemicals in food on purpose for no reason.

“National teacher shortage” is a fun way of saying that the USA has made a passion driven job so ungodly inhospitable that even people who “just care about teaching, not the money” don’t even care about teaching anymore.

"It doesn't help your credibility to exaggerate, most employers wouldn't literally work you to death" like, I used to work in distribution. If booking a truck driver for back to back shifts until they fall asleep at the wheel, crash, and die counts as being worked to death, I have personally met employers who've worked employees to death and gotten away with a slap on the wrist. It may not be universal, but it's a hell of a lot more common than a lot of us would prefer to think.

It's like very much one reason why labor laws about hours and safe working conditions exist. People were getting worked to death, it was a thing that happened which made people get laws about it. Labor laws like those don't just happen on speculation, they're not like "well we don't know but we shouldn't take the risk." We know because it happened. And still happens. Health and safety and wellness is so often characterized in media and politics as some arbitrary standard that no one ever tested, it's super easy to forget that's not true. None of it is arbitrary and people who think so get crushed in submarine implosions or shot in the streets of New York.
