Dennis, who as he grew up, so did the dogs. Until one day the dogs were too old to work the farm anymore, too old to do much more than hang around Den as loyal friends.

Den didn’t mind this, but Den’s Dad who did. Who minded it a lot. Became meaner and meaner to the animals. Started cussing at the dogs and locking them out of the house & in the barn with Den and the other animals. Dennis did his best to take care of them. Dennis ends up putting the collar he had found in the attic on the dog that was there for his birth.

Now that the dogs weren’t going much they began to relax in a way, become more calm and less… animated. The dogs were okay for a while, aging steadily until one day, the oldest gets sick. Dennis does the only thing he can do, lays down on the front door’s welcoming mat and prays until sunrise that his dog will be okay, and that his dad will help.

Den who struggles to feed himself as he goes through his rotations, collar still buckled around his ankle.

Rabbot who sees this kid, tired & fervor driven about his job, and goes oh, that’s us. And realizes that he’s going to burn himself out quick. Robby and Jack who talk to each other and agree that this kid needs to be watched and helped. So they watch him, figure out he’s broke, homeless, engaging in manyyy different unhealthy habits, and then they make a plan of action.

Jack puts the puzzle together, talks to Robby about it, and also manages to get the thing moving. Finding out he was homeless was the thing that made him definitively say that him and his husband needed this boy, and this boy clearly needs them.

So Jack encourages his husband’s attraction. Tells robby to go nuts. Robby ends up setting a room up for Dennis before he even gets there.
