Bill Cunningham, "William J", velvet hat & box, 1950s
There are a lot of Jake Sisko and Quark scenes in the later seasons and I couldn't figure out why until I realized that adult Jake Sisko is too much of a Bohemian artsy layabout to hang out with the Starfleet folks, so all his scenes are him loitering in the bar all day.
Jake should have gotten a part-time job working there for experience with talking to different types of people. The Jake-Nog expected future switcharoo would have been fun.
I love this idea so much itβs unreal
here's what I imagine: one day jake is just hanging around and quark is like "can't believe the new springwine delivery is all messed up, the bottles should be sorted by year and season, good grief" and jake is like "oh, I'm not doing anything..." (he is procrastinating on writing his novel) "need some help?" and happily spends the afternoon sorting bottles. he can probably also fix various glitches in the computer systems just from basic knowledge & interning briefly with o'brien & hearing nog complain about the problems over the years, etc. etc.
it never occurs to him to ask for payment because... why? he doesn't need it... but he still works there part time. :D no one wants to ask him if he actually knows what's going on in case he doubles down and is like "yeah, I *DO* work here now!"
What if I start a trend called "No one nuts November" where everyone writes about their favorite characters having bad sex that sucks and isn't fun.
Okay so I made a list of 30 (well, 29 actually) prompts I am releasing into the wild. The point of this is that at least one of the participants are not having a good time.
It has 30 prompts for November but feel free to write and post whenever, but please add the tag #No one nuts November or #NoonenutsNovember wherever you post. You do not have to @ or credit this blog if you use any of these prompts.

the inverse placeness of voyager and ds9 is a really interesting point of comparison and once you start noticing it itβs easy to see how it influences the narrative arcs of both shows. the spatial stability of ds9 easily lends itself to the big picture political intrigue plots, whereas the spatial instability of voyager lends itself more to focus on the charactersβ personal journeys. voyager by its very nature could never have something like the dominion war, it simply does not stay put long enough for that type of story. ds9 could never have something like equinox or timeless, itβs too connected to the outside world. itβs fine if you prefer ds9 because it can tell those big picture stories, or voyager because of the microscope it provides on its characters, but any comparison of the two has got to take the placeness of it all into account

Thinking about how even though most people draw (understandable) parallels between Spock and Data, going by family dynamics Deanna Troi is a notable parallel to Spock.
-Half human/half psychic alien species
-Both's non-human parents were specifically famously effective Star Fleet diplomats
-Whether real or perceived seen as lacking in a lot of the qualities prized/specialized in by the non-human parent's culture. This is brought up untactfully by said non-human parent
-Nevertheless the field they went into heavily relies on said trait they allegedly don't have
-So much family drama
-Shenanigans related to betrothals that neither of them goes through with
Which is to say Spock deserved a moment similar to Deanna Troi where she got to storm out of a dinner where her mom was being particularly belligerent and smash a vase on the way out.
Wholeheartedly agree

Votive figures c. Early modern period of the Dominion, Kurikan stone
Credit line: Gift of the Art Institute, Dr. Arin Cheyvak, 2373
Museum of Dahkurian Arts, Bajor
Since people have asked me to discuss a little more about my xenoarchaeological/art history pieces, hereβs some information regarding this one, since people have responded well to it! Pretty much all headcanons here are mine unless otherwise stated.
Influences:
This piece in particular didnβt require much research, as it was simple in ideation and execution. The most glaring influence here would be Sumerian votive figures, which Iβve modified by also observing pieces like the Woman of Willendorf and other early fertility figures. In general, for art created by Vortiy* I tend to research artworks from the cradles of civilization.
Like Ancient Greek statues, these figures wouldβve been painted with bright hues using pigment derived from plants.
Background:
*Vortiy is a term used to describe the common ancestor of modern Vorta. The name is derived from @dominionese-resource βs dictionary, and translates to βnon-peopleβ. As established in Treachery, Faith, and the Great River, it is the belief of Vorta that their early ancestors were literal animals. Something about this idea of the transformation from apes -> fully sentient beings never sat right with me, considering the other lies presented in the same episode.
In early Founders religion, it was believed that they were non-people because they had not been imbued with genetic enhancements by the Founders. The early modern period of the Dominion began with Changeling contact on the planet, where they would transform themselves from the Hunger to Gods, promising Vortiy that they would one day be given these gifts. I could go on an entire tangent about this subject, but Iβll leave it here.
The artist of these pieces within the narrative is unknown, but maybe one day Iβll get around to introducing them.
Discovery:
Following the Dominion-Cardassian alliance, the Dominion granted access to a charter fleet to explore the Gamma Quadrant prior to 2374. Among these was an anthropological expedition, its most notable figure being Dr. Cheyvak from Cardassiaβs Art Institute. While conducting fieldwork on Kurrill Prime, he discovered the existence of an ancient Vortiy city.
As a member of the Cardassian Culture Chamber that destroyed Bajoran artworks throughout the 2350s, Cheyvak was obliged to destroy the figures by the Founders. All evidence that was discovered of artistic inclination by Vorta was demolished, save for three of the most complete statuettes.
In 2373, Dr. Cheyvak sent a package containing the figures to a disgraced Professor Lukteld to his home in Dahkur. The two men had met two years before, when Lukteld had uncovered Cheyvakβs plot to sell a faked Orb of Creation to the government of Bajor. The package also contained a letter, the contents of which are unknown to the public.
The statuettes would remain in Lukteldβs possession until the end of the war.

This rapid slide from attempted machismo to sweet tender feelings is what happened to the show, too.
