It was an uncharacteristically sunny and hot day for this time of year. Techie wouldn't normally wear such revealing clothes, opting more often than not to show as little skin as possible, but the weather almost demanded he wore as little as possible so as to not pass out. It also didn't help that he would be spending some time outside under the blazing sun.
During one of the several casual conversations they've had, Matt commented he liked to jog around the local park a couple days a week as part of his workout routine. Techie, being somewhat of an idiot, said he'd love to tag along to watch. He now regretted saying it, not because he didn't like to be with him â oh no; he cherished every moment â but because he had to be outside for god-knows-how-long. But he couldn't back away from the promise now, especially not when Matt had beamed as he'd made said promise.
Matt was already at the park when Techie arrived, stretching by the fence running through the park. The smile he received as Matt notice him coming up instantly warmed him more than he's like to admit.
"I, uh, usually do five of six laps, but I can cut it short today," Matt told him, "then we can go grab a bite to eat or something. Sound good?"
"Sounds good. I'll stay here." Techie hoisted himself up on the fence and sat. Practically all of the benches in the park were occupied, so sitting on the metal railing seemed like the best option.
As Matt started up his light trot, Techie contemplated on their relationship.
They knew each other, but could he really say they were friends? Techie hadn't really ever had one, but it sure felt like they were. He'd love if they were more, but being friends was enough.
He could see Matt nearing him now. Lap one done.
Techie wanted to ask him what they were, but the fear of ruining what they had kept his mouth shut. Techie also couldn't help but feel that this was some sort of date? Maybe? Maybe not.
Matt returned again. Lap two.
He didn't specify exactly how many laps he would take, just how many he normally took. Techie just hoped it wouldn't be too many more as the sun started to make him uncomfortably warm â or rather â more than he already was. His scalp was probably already starting to get sunburned. He was also getting hungry.
At the end of the third lap Matt slowed down before ultimately stopping by Techie's side, panting heavily.
"Fuck, It's too fucking hot." Matt seemed to be looking for something, then cursed again. "I forgot my water bottle."
"We can go find something to eat and drink now, if you prefer," Techie replied.
"Yeah, in a minute. Just gotta catch my breath."
Matt leaned against the fence next to where Techie still sat and breathed deeply.
He didn't know what compelled him to do it â maybe it was the weather playing tricks on his mind, or just the way the man looked beside him, arms splayed wide as if in open invitation â but for whatever reason, Techie carefully reached out and took one of Matt large hands in his own.
He didn't dare say anything. Neither did Matt. The silence was deafening.
Techie gave him a small, nearly unnoticeable squeeze.
After a couple seconds, Matt squeezed back.
