I find the fact that Vesemir is travelling with Geralt at the beginning of Witcher 3 quite endearing. Vesemir wouldn’t have seen much of him in recent years. Geralt had died. Then, he mysteriously reappeared at Kaer Morhen (albeit an amnesiac), before having to set off again for the events of Witcher 1. They wouldn’t have met again until after the events of Witcher 2. I can’t help but think that, after all Geralt has been through, Vesemir was thinking “Damn, I can’t let my dumbass son go out on his own again.”
