This loss is not accidental. It is a tragic reminder of the failures within the carceral system. The lack of adequate mental health resources, combined with negligence and systemic shortcomings in our system, continues to cost lives.

Far too many people are dying at the hands of systems that cause harm rather than healing. Incarceration should never lead to dehumanization. Peaches was a human being. She deserved dignity, respect, compassion, and access to the care she needed.

As we mourn her loss, we also honor her life. Let Peaches’ legacy be a call to action. We must continue advocating for a transformation of our systems of incarceration and for better responses to individuals living with severe mental illness. No one should be forgotten, neglected, or stripped of their humanity. Rest peacefully, Peaches. Your life mattered, your presence was felt, and your memory will forever remain with us.

Earlier this week, active members of our community attended a city council meeting to read poems & voice frustration with the conditions of Birmingham city jail.

While attempting to invoke the mayor Randall Woodfin to come to city hall to hear these concerns, the mayor instead sent 4 Birmingham police officers who arrested, assaulted and hospitalized one of the people making their voice heard. Last I heard from one of my friends, they’re still in the hospital.

TAKE resource center is the only trans focused resource center in the city and focuses especially giving , often life saving, assistance our Black trans siblings.

Spain aims at penalizing so-called “conversion therapy” - practices that attempt to change a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression.

The reform, passed by Congress on 25 June 2026, would amend the Penal Code to punish these abuses with prison sentences of six months to two years, as well as fines.

This applies even when supposed “consent” has been given, recognizing that pressure from families, institutions or religious groups can make such consent meaningless.

The measure is an important victory for LGBTQ rights campaigners and survivors, who have long argued that conversion practices are not therapy, but psychological violence. International human rights experts, including within the UN system, have described such practices as deeply harmful and potentially amounting to torture.

Spain already banned conversion therapy under its 2023 trans and LGBTQ equality law, but campaigners said administrative sanctions were not enough. Criminal penalties send a clearer message: LGBTQ identities are not illnesses, and no one should be shamed, coerced or “treated” for being who they are. The reform still has to pass through the Senate, where changes may be proposed.

Our last post isn't moving

We had to spend many days in a hotel room after grandpa tried to force a haircut on our daughter because she is trans, she needs a new haircut to fix what he did to her.

On top of that weather has been shit, we keep getting blackouts and low voltage, our connection has been unreliable, we also have had our water supply cut alongside many other people in the neighborhood, the water company swears supply will be up shortly but we've been like this for over a week.

The blackouts spoiled our food and insulin, we need help getting insulin while we file for a refill with their healthcare.

We also want help being safe at home, grandpa is willing to go visit his siblings in back on his home town, don't see it as helping a transphobic man, more like helping a trans family feel safe for a while.

Our trans son has missed his last two weekly T shots, it is pride month, he shouldn't be depressed and spiraling due to dysphoria, please, help him.

And the mold is coming back full force due to the constant rains and humidity.

My partner is recovering from an ankle injury after his dad pulled his cane from him during an argument and my mother in law's sciatica and disc pain has been horrible, she needs to go to her doctor.

Im ashamed to say we're still unemployed, we do have a new student but our connection has been so unreliable i can't be sure to give a proper class if this continues.

Masoud El Amaratly was a renowned Iraqi folk singer and transgender man born at the turn of the 20th century in Iraq. 

Marwan Kaabour presents the life of Masoud El Amaratly (also written as Masoud Al-Amartli, 1898 or 1901–1944) over at the Ajam Media Collective

El Amaratly began living as a man after an incident at age 18 when he courageously stopped two harassers, earning praise from his community. This event allowed him to express his gender identity more openly, adopting traditional male dress and pursuing a career in singing.

El Amaratly was part of the Mustarjil community, a transgender identity accepted among the Ahwari (Marsh Arabs) in southern Iraq. 

The Mustarjil, meaning "becoming [a] man," was a recognized gender category for individuals assigned female at birth who chose to live as men after puberty.

Rising to fame in the 1920s and 1930s, El Amaratly became known for his distinctive voice and his use of the abuḏiya style, a form of poetry and singing popular among the Ahwari.
