"He's so excited about us both going home. There's no harm in pretending," Grace said through the video. Stratt paused it there. When she looked at the background of the video to where Rocky was sleeping, she knew there was definitely some harm. She had seen how attached Rocky was to Grace in the short time they knew each other. That alien cared deeply for him and when Rocky found out that Grace was not going home, it was not going to go over well. Stratt had to assume there was an alien out there who was not happy with her.

And you know all those jokes and headcanons about Rocky swearing every other word like any self-respecting engineer would, right? And Grace most likely did enter all those words into the translator, but replaced them with softer censored equivalents because he himself doesn’t really swear so the idea that someone might be talking to him in profanity every other sentence probably never even crossed his mind.

Now imagine this. They finally arrive to Erid. Grace desperately wants to make a good first impression, so he spends days hunched over his laptop, painstakingly assembling a greeting speech out of fragments from Rocky’s recordings.

And the resulting first contact speech sounds… bad. Like really bad. He turns the laptop toward the delegation looking unbelievably proud of himself. Presses play. And the computer proceeds to unleash a magnificent torrent of multilayered alien profanity stitched together from fragments of Rocky’s voice. Grace has absolutely no idea.

Rocky watched all of these preparations in silence the entire time, making those sly whistling noises that could absolutely be interpreted as laughter. Rocky's proud.

Tim as Red Robin, staring forlornly at his broken grapple, exhaustion seeping out of him in waves: …

Danny: Hey uh… want me to fix that?

Tim, sounding near tears: Please 🙏

Danny: *quickly fixes the grapple, pulling scrap from his bag.* Here all fixed!

Tim: Here, your payment. *hands over his entire wallet and grapples away*

Danny: *stares blankly for 30 seconds* … Um?

Danny: *Silently screaming inside as he stares at Red Robin’s very civilian state ID*

Jon: Jonathan Kent here to drop off my depressed introvert!

Damian: I feel like I should be insulted, but I see cats inside so I'm going to let it go.

Paul: Just take him right inside Mr. Kent. Next!

Tucker: Tucker Foley! Here to drop off my depressed inteovert!

Bruce: “…Jason. Did you raid another one of my safe houses? Two thirds of the gear stored here is missing”

Steph: “Dang dude, how’d you haul all that out without getting caught?”

Jason: “um, I didn’t?? Why’re you assuming it was me Bruce?”

Bruce: “Jason. I love you, but you are the most frequent safe house raider in the family. It is almost always you”

Jason: “okay fair, but still. Rude”

Damian: “if it was not Todd, who was it?”

Dick: “not me”

Steph: “me neither. Too much effort needed”

Duke: “I’m in bed right now, y’all woke me up…”

Cass: “no”

Barbara: “one of you gotta be lying”

Steph: “yeeaah, but the only other Bat brazen enough to rob B is Kate, and she opted out of patrol tonight ’cause of a hangover. And we all know that the League knows better”

Bruce: “we still have not established who stole from the safe house. The security footage has been heavily corrupted…”

Jason: “Bruce I swear on my own gravestone I didn’t— ok hold up, someone broke into one of my safe houses too, gimme a minute”

Duke: “why do you guys have so many safe houses? Do I need to start making safe houses?”

Barbara: “I’m going to text Selina and Harley just in case it was them…”

Jason: “eew… what the hell is on my floor- bAHAHAHHAA! Oh my GOD”

Bruce: “Jason, what is—“

Jason: “so, the good news is, I found the - hehehe - I found the missing g-gear B.”

Dick: “aaaand the news that has you wheeze laughing so hard the comms are staticky?”

Tim: “Also, what was the ew? You step in something?”

Jason: “it’s all… oh man I can’t breathe… all of Bruce’s gear is encased in lime green jelly!”

Bruce: “…what.”

Duke: “okay. This is officially worth getting out of bed for, I gotta go see this…”

—meanwhile, elsewhere—

Tucker: “what the… hey! Who left a huge mess in the kitchen! This is a shared space people! Dan, where are you?!”

Dan: “who do I get the blame for everything that goes wrong in this house?!”

Dani: “Dan. I love you, but you are the most frequent cause of damage and chaos in this household. It is almost always you”

Dan: “okay fair, but still. Rude”

Danny: “I’m home!”

Valerie: “dude, you stink of lime jelly…”

Sam: “where were you? You’ve been gone for ages.”

Cass decides to go with the plan and sneaks through the vents. She plans to drop down behind him and poke him or something. What she wasn’t expecting was for him to suddenly perk up and turn in his seat to look right at her in the vent. How had he noticed her? Not even Superman could notice her if she knew she was sneaking up on him!

Already knowing the plan is a bust she drops down with the intention of introducing and explaining herself when something weird happens. Cass had been trained since birth to read people’s bodies. To her it was her first language. So it surprised her when Phantom seemed to be doing the same to her. Reacting to her in the same way she was reacting to him.

Danny, for his part, is also confused that this bat person seems to be communicating in what he can best describe as a mute form of ghostspeak. She only has a proto-core so she can only project the most basic of intentions to color her emotions but combined with her body movements it’s almost as easy for him to understand as ghostspeak!

It was a silent conversation but the two young heroes quickly struck up a friendship. Cass is happy that she’s met someone she can converse with without any words or sign and Danny’s happy to meet someone who’s capable of understanding and somewhat replying in ghost. The only words shared between them being those that they can’t get through a combination of body language and a weak form of ghostspeak, but they’re mostly entirely quiet.

“Danno!” Jack Fenton boomed, “Come down here!”

“Coming!” Danny shouted back, putting the model rocket he was working on down on his desk and walking down the stairs till he was in the living room with the rest of the Fenton family

“What’s up, Dad?” Danny asked, Jack looking like an overeager puppy—well, more so than usual, that is.

“My brother John is coming over!” Jack grinned, “You’ll like him, a good fella!”

“We have an Uncle?” Jazz raised an eyebrow, “I didn’t know Grandma Janice had a son besides Dad,”

“Your Grandmother had married an English man sometime after your grandfather died, but they’d gotten divorced, and your Uncle John had gone with his father back to England.” Maddie explained, “He didn’t ever get along with your father much,”

“But now we’ll get the chance to move past our childhood squabbles and become the brothers we should’ve always been!” Jack grinned, “You’ll love your Uncle Connie!”

“Connie?” Danny asked in confusion, “I thought his name was John?”

“John Constantine,” Maddie clarified, “He took his father’s name when your grandmother went back to her previous marriage’s one,”

“When’s he going to be here?” Jazz questioned right before the doorbell rang.

Jack sprung up, “There he is!”

Bounding towards the door, the orange-clad man threw open the front door and wrapped his arms around whoever was there in a large hug.

“Johnny!” Jack exclaimed, “How are you, buddy?!”

“Get off me!” A British voice yelped, “I can’t breathe, ya bloody idiot!”

Jack let go and a blonde man in a trench coat fell to the floor, coughing slightly as he stood up.

“Fuckin’ shit,” The man looked rough, greasy blond hair and a stubble of a beard all while smelling of cigarette smoke and faintly of alcohol.

The man glanced at Maddie, “You’re Maddie, right? Jack’s wife,”

“That’s me,” Maddie smiled as she held out her hand as he took it to shake.

“John Constantine,” He grunted, “This buffoon’s half brother,”

The man suddenly made eye contact with Danny and his eyes went wide at the same time Danny felt his core shutter.

John cleared his throat, “Guessin’ your Danny?”

Danny nodded, “Uh, yeah,”

The two shook hands, both thinking the same thought.

This one is NOT human

Danny: You think that because you love me, and love has made you dumb.

Dick: I disagree, if anything I think love has made me smarter. Remember last week, when I boiled that egg?

Jason: Oh yeah, you had an autopsy too huh?

Danny: Yeah but I was awake for mine! Real painful! Negative ten out of ten, do not recommend.

Tim: Everything you say makes me sad.

Danny, rubbing the back of his neck: O-Oh, I'm sorry.

Most people in Amity know Danny is Phantom, especially the teenagers. More importantly, they've realized that everyone in Amity is liminal enough to be summoned with the correct runes. And so a system has been devised so when they want to hang out somewhere, one person goes in, draws a big summoning circle, and just summons everyone else. It saves a lot on transportation and it's just practical.

Now that they're all old enough to go to college, most have spread all around the country. Staying in contact is not a problem, however, they can just summon each other, get together for a while, then break the circle and send them back to wherever they were before. Perfect solution. It doesn't even register as weird, they've been doing it for years and no one even bats an eye anymore. No one in Amity that is.
