Shipping is the fictional concept of liking when two characters interact romantically/sexually. There is never the implication that you have to think the dynamic is healthy. Everyone knows that having a ship doesn’t necessarily mean you want them to be together in canon or support the themes of the relationship as a whole but for some reason that goes out the window when it comes to sexual abuse.

People on TikTok are allowed to make jokes about Deathstroke being a pedo but as soon as you want to talk about tara markov and explore her trauma and how the relationship played out/what her experiences as a victim were via fanfic, then suddenly you’re a freak who thinks statutory rape is ok because you used the “slara” tag.

I know that writing a well thought out think piece on sexual abuse is different than like a 5k pwp oneshot about it, and there are a lot of antis who think they are better than the latter bc they only do the former, but you’d be surprised the number of people who act like those two things are equivalent just to pass judgement and shut down any kind of conversation that makes them uncomfortable. I don’t agree with every proshipper or think that everything they do is “okay”/smth I’m comfortable with, but I’m not gonna pretend to be a cop about it. I think it’s important to tag responsibly and respect everyone’s boundaries because I know that it’s a controversial topic for a reason, but idk how egotistical I’d have to be to think the internet has to revolve around me. There’s always a thin line between you and the person you think you’re better than! There’s always someone behind you!

Idk if the twitter user is an anti, im not trying to put words in their mouth at all but they’re definitely not a proship account and they tried to talk about a canon rape in the comics and explore the canon abusive dynamic between the perpetrator and victim, and they did it in like the most normal way ever all they did was draw a parallel to another piece of media that has rape in it. But they got accused of “shipping” the characters by antis who think any discussion of sexual abuse is inherently problematic and should be shut down. I don’t think people should be left fumbling to apologize for daring to discuss sexual abuse.
