People's "concern" for Ariana Grande is ultimately just body policing and ableism.
She makes a whole video about her emotional and mental suffering in the industry, tearing down cruel powerful men with a chainsaw, only to have that commodified too, and all anyone can do is talk about her body.
no one cares about her message, her story, her voice, her hard work, ...just her body.
They want her to be hidden, to be cancelled, to be locked up. They're angry at her. They dont like looking at her body.
This isnt how to care for people with EDs, mental illness, or physical illness.
This is being angry that you are being made to perceive a sick person in public.
"She's glorifying anorexia" she never told anyone to be anorexic, she is just existing in her body. Same way a fat woman dancing wouldnt be "glorifying obesity" just existing in her body.
Why cant we let women - and people like me who get lumped in with women but are gender queer - just exist in our own bodies in public without this constant judging and punishing?
Yes someone that skinny needs medical help. She is a celebrity but she is also a stranger and you dont know what she is or is not doing about her illness.
And yea its even possible she isnt anorexic and something else is happening btw.
The person who cared the most about me when I was starving myself was my girlfriend who is a fat woman. I couldnt get help from anyone else. Some friends cared but most people didnt seem to get it was serious.
If I danced in front of strangers in that body I was starving, they would have called me too fat and told me to stop eating so much.
Yall dont care about her ED because you want everyone to eat appropriately, you care because she is TOO skinny. If she had instead got fatter, people would be so much crueler. If she becomes actually overweight, you think people will celebrate her health? No yall just want her body to be in a very specific little cage. Yall dont care how she feels.
But she's a person not a doll.
Her life is hers and so is her body and people need to re-evaluate how we respond to fat bodies AND to underweight bodies and the human beings in those bodies.
