I think the fact you notice that is a testament to sheer number of pitches that get rejected everyday by big companies for being female led or female focused.

Like I’m not joking that can straight up be what gets your idea shut down. It can be a concept killer.

Male led/focused media doesn’t severely dwarf female led media in sheer volume because male targeted media is intrinsically more interesting or because it’s the only thing artists want to make.

It’s because big companies fundamentally regard most “girls media” as basically shovelware. They do not want to make it.

Every successful girl focused IP out there is kinda unironically seen as the exception to the “rule” that “girls media” doesn’t sell as well.

The butcher shop being named after and also literally inside a whale is genuinely the biggest piece of foreshadowing we have in the show other than the literal prophecy in the intro.

It’s likely a reference to the Bible story of Jonah and the Whale, where the titular Jonah is a prophet outrunning his prophet duties. On the way, through a series of mishaps, he nearly drowns. Thankfully, God sends a whale to swallow him and prevent him from dying. The whale then barfs him up on the shore of the city he needs to go do prophet things in, so he accepts his fate and does.
