how many of those argentina players, the same ones who openly and proudly chanted about how black frenchmen on the national team are just africans who like fucking trans people, have black french teammates?
enzo plays with disasi, sarr, fofana, badiashille, ugochukwu, and nkuku; macca plays with Konate; garnacho plays with malacia (and if varane is black/of immigrant descent, then him too, but i’m unsure if he is/does); molina and de paul play with Lemar; martinez plays with kamara and diaby; parades played with mbappe, who is explicitly mentioned in the song as a “person who fucks transgender people” (cometravas), for five years. every single one of these men plays with black players on their team at club level, every single one plays with a black man who represents or is from a european country.
of course, we don’t know who all was actually singing along. we only have the limited scope of enzo’s live, so of course we don’t know if it was all the players or just some; however, when you allow that behavior and don’t speak out against it, you’re as much a part of the problem as the guys chanting along. not one of the argentina players has spoken out or said anything about the chant, not one has criticized or condemned it.
these guys are friends with people who they would disrespect in an instant as soon as it’s seen as okay to do so.
this doesn’t make their actions any better/worse, though. racism is racism is racism; it doesn’t matter if it’s about a friend or a complete stranger or a group of people of which you have many friends who make up that group. it just further shows that this kind of thinking, this kind of racism, is so ingrained in the way people think that they don’t even realize that the people they are insulting are their friends, their family, their community.
you can wear patches and armbands and kits with a fist on it and say “say no to racism!!” all you want, but it’s not enough until every racist player and every racist chant and every racist club is punished with the same unrestrained objectivity. racism is racism is racism, and it has no place, whether subtle or overt or both, in football or the world in the modern age.
it is incredibly telling how little media coverage this incident has got. the institutions who claim to be anti-racist will give in to whatever the easiest road is. they don’t care about racism, they don’t care about equality- they care about money and clicks and attention.
and it doesn’t matter if players weren’t chanting, or weren’t on the bus— by not speaking up or condemning it after the fact, all these players have endorsed this behavior until they show that they feel or believe otherwise.
