and I thought, this is it, this is the last moment of my life
Can we talk about how Buck is from Eddie’s perspective? He’s not silly or dumb or a himbo or any of the other things I actually love about Buck but make him a less serious character.
In each FaceTime Buck is competent, smart and reassuring. He’s making dinner at the station which means multitasking and good cooking skills. He’s available when Eddie calls which is reliable. He listens and offers good advice. He’s selfless and doesn’t take the opportunity to encourage Eddie home when we know he feels like he’s missing a limb without him. I’m not sure, but I think Buck even stutters less? He’s calm and confident, more sure of his advice and obviously doubts himself less.
Buck from Eddie’s perspective is everything Buck wants to be for the people he loves. Yes, Buck and Eddie also get to be silly together and we see that in Buck’s view, but how beautiful is it that he’s also this mature and stable partner?
AO3: post lawsuit, Buck is still on the outs with the team and-

Can’t believe this is something I’m actually saying but fantasizing about a character’s best friend abusing him in favor of your ship is not a good look.
Please step away from the internet and go to therapy to unpack that.
Also like… his sister is canonically a DV survivor and he was instrumental in helping her get out… so let’s not. 🙃
is fandom seriously back on this???
personally I think Mr. "I rush into relationships too fast" and Mr. "How would you like our second date to be my SISTERS wedding" are perfect for each other
Ok because I’m STILL thinking abt that one person saying Eddie is verbally abusive, I wanna talk abt why those of us who are Hispanic/latinx are reading that as a racist statement.
In this scene, Eddie gets upset with Buck, and yells at him. He’s been shown several times during the episode missing Buck and struggling to process the feeling of “this person is my partner in every way that matters and now they’re suddenly not around”, which is compounded by him still not having processed his grief over Shannon’s death and his grief over her abandoning him again (by asking for a divorce).
While his expression of those emotions did hit directly on some of Bucks insecurities, they were not abusive in nature. He didn’t say “you’re selfish” he said “you aren’t looking at both sides of this and I miss you”. Expressed angrily, yes, but valid sentiments he needed to express in order to set a boundary between him and Buck re: their communication or lack thereof.
This is the only instance in which he gets angry at Buck. He does not threaten him, or belittle him, his statements are all centered around how he feels about what buck did. To call this verbal abuse would be a gross over exaggeration.
Then we have this scene (lightened so you can actually see wtf is going on):
After buck looks in bobby’s book, bobby slams him against a wall and says “don’t ever do that again”. This was a clear threat, this was physically violent, and a response to Buck breaking a boundary that bobby had. And yet I have not seen ONE person call bobby abusive or claim he has anger issues.
Why might that be? Perhaps because you are predisposed to seeing all white men as benevolent and all moc as violent, especially in regards to white people.
To be clear: neither of these men are abusive. But to say Eddie is, when you’ve never thought of bobby that way? That’s racism.
I don’t usually participate in 9-1-1 fandom discourse, like ever, but there’s a first time for everything. Read below the cut if you dare and care.
TLDR: The “Eddie alone gets the shovel talk” trope is tired and cringey. Let’s please be realistic and original

Random guy: omg, you are fucking Kendall Knight!
James: yes, I am
Kendall: uh, I think he was talking to me
Kendall: love is dead
Logan: you’re literally making a valentine’s day card for James right now
Kendall, pointing a glue gun at him: you’re on thin fucking ice
