One of my fave things about Nora as an author is that she could have (very easily and believably) made exy segregated by gender, something I think a LOT of female m/m writers would have done (due to the pervasive issue of sexism in these communities that make these writers not want to write female characters), and instead she made it co-ed, made the captain a woman, and then made the female characters just as well rounded as her male characters. And like, yes this is a low bar, but it’s shocking how few authors hit it.

Every time I read tsc and tgr my favouriteeeee part is Neil’s characterisation from a different PoV. Nora saw the people trying to woobify Neil and soften his character in the fandom post-og trilogy and went no actually he would order a hit on someone without a second thought. And I love that.

I’m not gonna lie it’s borderline embarrassing how long I’ve worked on this that I’ve spend 2 days tryna figure out how to caption it to make it less embarrassing but oh well. It also made me realise the banner says exy ncaa instead of ncaa exy but at this point that’s none of my business

Short of being inside Nora’s head here is a (mostly) (I think) biblically accurate and to scale model of the Foxhole Court and Nora I have a several questions.

Also rendered so many images of this I had like 50 cameras in the scene would y’all care if I just did a photo dump.

God I have so many things to say about working on this I had to restart like 8 times it was a mess but if I start I won't be able to stop Imao though if anyone's interested in a breakdown of all the sections and materials I would be more than happy to make a post yapping about it.

Rereading aftg I have such appreciation for Nicky. Survived conversation therapy, his suicidal teenage years, his outrageously homophobic parents, and made a new life for himself in Germany. Left that life (and the love of his life) in Germany to take custody of Andrew and Aaron when he was what, 19 years old? Can you even imagine the 2ish years where he raised Andrew and Aaron (in the house he bought for the three of them) through high school?

By all means he doesn’t even care about exy, he doesn’t even have a background in it from what I can see, but he picks it up just to stay with Andrew and Aaron. He’s the worst on the team and he knows it, but he gives it his all anyway. He’s been away from Germany for 3-4 years when the book starts, and is willing to go another 4 more to see out his contract, for Andrew and Aaron.

And what does he get for it? Homophobic comments from Seth and Aaron that nobody defends him from, zero appreciation from Andrew or Aaron for his sacrifice, a divided team where he can’t befriend half of them, and the other half are the family who yes, love him in their own twisted way but who aren’t really a source of support or comfort.

I know he had his moments in the first book (the comments about Neil, the kissing, etc), but he’s a damn good cousin to Aaron and Andrew
