As far as I know, this kind of flip-flopping has been unprecedented in my lifetime. It hasn't even been a month since the pro-Duterte faction gained the majority in the Senate, and they already lost it. And they all got kicked out of the Senate committees they chair.
Granted, two of their members being criminals actually helped the opposition because they're excluded from the counting of serving senators, typically 24. But, largely, their loss of the majority was largely attributed to... them not even showing up for work, basically. Which meant their opposition- 12 of the 22 active senators (11 who were in the opposition plus another one that flipped sides)- not only had the majority of seats in the Senate, but also had the quorum required for a vote to oust the now-minority senators from their various positions, including Senate President.
Now, the current minority is trying to scramble for reasons to invalidate the vote, including acting as if there were still 24 active senators (cough Pia Cayetano cough).
Also, I should mention that members of the current minority aided and abetted one of the aforementioned criminals- the internationally wanted Bato Dela Rosa, who just had his ICC warrant of arrest released publicly around the same time his faction won the Senate majority. This was also the same incident where the Senate went into lockdown (to prevent others from enforcing the warrant of arrest), AND the day that Senate received the articles of impeachment for Sara Duterte.
I dunno if I want to hope that the current majority lasts long enough to get shit done. I have no doubt that the minority bloc would obstruct these proceedings every step of the way. Philippine politics has been a clown show for so long it feels pointless to care, but sometimes I can't help but wish that they actually do their jobs for once.
