We suggest new visitors start here, as well as regular visitors who have questions.
We don't utilize content warnings or trigger tags, expect to see all sorts of subject matter discussed on this blog. Tags are mainly used for broad topic categories, such as #shipping problems or #anime fandom.
As such, content may be NSFT. We don't check ages of blogs, but recommend that users be 18+. Viewer discretion is advised.

Please keep discussions civil. Outright bigotry or low-effort trolling will result in being blocked, as well as repeated rude or disruptive behavior.
Submissions are received via the ask box and are all treated as anonymous.
We copy the text of each submission directly into the image without any alterations, so any misspellings or typos are as received. The only thing we may alter is line spacing for the sake of readability or fitting into the image, or any emojis that do not translate over.
Do not include your own Fandom Problem number when submitting your problem. It is not going to be posted right away and makes things confusing when we are trying to search for response asks.
Please be patient, we have a very large backlog (currently 3000 inbox items, with the queue set to post 19 times per day). Our oldest inbox items currently are from January 2026.
Do not re-submit your problem because it hasn't been posted for a while. We understand that it's easy to forget and mistakes happen. However, if it gets to the point of becoming spam it may result in being blocked.
Our focus is on queuing the oldest inbox items, but occasionally will mix in submissions from the middle of the inbox for variety.
If you change your mind about a submission and would like to have it deleted, we can do so, but you need to provide as much information as you can remember in order to be sure we're deleting the correct one. Things like the topic, time frame in which it was sent, or any specific phrases used that were used may help us narrow down our search. Assume that your request has been seen and handled even if your ask wasn't answered publicly. A submission will not be deleted once it has been posted publicly to the blog, however.

When people assume consuming content = paying for it and doing it within earshot of anyone else, thus spreading awareness of it and financially supporting the creator or IP holder.
Dude. I'm not into media where this is a point of contention, but if I'm in my room on my laptop, and I get morbidly curious about a movie that has a bigoted or racist creator, and I download a torrent of it and watch it, how in the actual heck does that either financially support the creator or IP holder, or raise awareness of it? You can bet your ass the torrent provider isn't going to report their stats and go "yeah, 500 people downloaded your movie this month!", and there's no chance of someone from the company snooping if it's a private tracker. Even streaming sites like wmovie aren't going to just ship all their view stats off to the creators and holders lol, and they certainly aren't making money for them, so I ask, if a tree falls in the forest and nobody's around to hear it, does it make a sound? Logic, people. For the love of shit.

If someone makes a list of fics and they title it something like "Best Fics in X Fandom". It really rubs me the wrong way. It's like they're implying their personal taste is objective truth, and I can't imagine if someone who worked really hard on a fic that had great subject matter, writing technique, etc saw that list, only to see their fic nowhere on it. It just feels shitty.
being simultaneously glad and frustrated that one of your favorite mini-franchises isn't getting more attention from the company that owns it. on the one hand, it went 14 years without any new additional content - a little bit shorter if you want to count a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in another piece by this company - and never gets any merch, adaptations, novels, anything. on the other hand, though, the newest addition to the series finally released last year and was all ooc hijinks instead of the heartfelt friendships and family i've grown used to seeing in the originals... and i know that if the franchise had been more active in its heyday, we would've reached this point far sooner and it would've just been downhill.

and it's either a character who's established to lie a lot, or there's reason to believe the character could be misinformed, or in a situation where there's a very obvious reason why a character may be motivated to conceal the truth.

I feel like people are purposely writing poorly (in the technical sense; lacking proper capitalization and punctuation like they’re Cormac McCarthy (haven’t read his books, he might utilize capitalization, but I know that he doesn’t utilize punctuation aside from maybe contractions, but some of what makes me think it’s signaling is that some of them also do that, which seems unusual for this?) and sometimes outright defying grammatical rules that are applied in the normal course of speech) as some kind of bizarre way of signaling that they’re not using AI, or something?
One would hope that people would just be able to trust that AI wasn’t used (beyond basic spellcheck functions, which is actually plausibly why things are like this? No spellcheck usage because that’s AI, I guess, which makes some sense maybe given that people oppose the usage of basic accessibility tools such as TTS, which doesn’t even utilize AI in any sense) on the grounds of the characters being in-character, and any divergences in that making sense for their character based off of features of any AU that’s been applied, but instead people choose to write bad?
I say this because, like, it’s common to see this kind of shitty grammar in people just starting out, but that’s generally accompanied by character acting OOC and the presence of self-inserts and OCs and stuff, but a lot of this new stuff is well-written from a character and plot standpoint, it’s just a mess from a technical standpoint? Which of course leads to the assumption that it’s as a way of showing that it’s the work of man, because that’s the inverse of how AI do things?

Why most OC Relationship Charts mix attitude (love, fear, hate) and status (for example, family). The fact that these characters are siblings does not say anything about whether they are on good or bad terms.
