rewatching the finale of atla and having so many emotions about how the three final groups were done in a way that so beautifully demonstrates each of the gaang's growth and their journey as a whole.
you have sokka, who started off s1 as misogynistic and unwilling to believe that girls can fight, who learns from that thought process and is taught otherwise by suki, who, in her own way, grew past her island to help her warriors reach out to more people, and then there's toph, who now is actually able to rely on people who don't baby her due to her blindness, and who value her as a person and not as a possession.
then you have zuko, who started with one singular goal, to capture the avatar and return to his father's side, who never saw anything good in the other nations, who does not hesitate before throwing himself in front of katara to protect her, because he will not allow anyone else to be hurt, and katara, who starts off hating the fire nation more than anything because of what they did to her mother, and who was betrayed by zuko, who immediately fights back against azula to protect zuko and takes her down on her own, because she has become one of the strongest benders we've known in the show.
finally, there's aang, who leaves the temple because he doesn't want to be separated from gyatso, who was afraid, and who comes out of the ice and has friends immediately surrounding him, who relies on the gaang and draws support from them, who faces down ozai alone while his friends go to their own battles, who has to rely on his own strength and fall into the role that he was terrified to take on, the role that he had to learn to accept.
