Fandom will see a female character going through turmoil and trauma and think âHow can we make this about how a man feels?â
obligatory "iykyk" but i feel like these people need to hear the absolute middle ground take that the internet is going to do what it wants and there is no way to stop it and we are giving you the solution that will resolve all conflict and instead you're actively choosing the option that will make things worse for no reason other than an inability to articulate your own discomfort in a way that doesn't incentivize you to hurt other people.
It does not actually matter if you like it or hate it because it is impossible to stop people from having thoughts and it would be batshit fucking crazy to even try. You would have to be stupid to try.
Conservative beauty standards are back with a vengeance which means it's especially important to go out this summer with bellies out and bodies unshaved. Also be unapologetically disabled with mobility aids and wearable medical devices and stim toys and ear defenders and all that stuff. You need it. People need to see it. Everyone needs to be reminded that life is unquestioningly more enjoyable when you're not living inside an arbitrary set of rules created by people who are offended by all the wrong things.
Racism in fandom spaces is actually insanely bad and if you ever try to downplay or avoid conversations about it because "fandom is supposed to be fun" then I'm not sorry to say this: You're adding on to the problem.

Happy disability pride month to everyone with ptsd, happy disability pride month to everyone with complex ptsd, happy disability pride month to everyone who questions if their problems are big enough to count as a disability, happy disability pride month to anyone who questions if their problems count as a physical or mental disability, happy pride month to everyone who has a disability that causes people to stare, and to those whose disabilities are hidden, happy disability pride month to everyone who deals with any kind of disability physical or mental, youâre all badass and I want you to remember that this month okay
Give a man a fanfic, and he will read for a day. Teach a man to write, and he still won't do it.
He'll think about it though, and boy oh boy, he'll be thinking about it...
i think before you marry someone, you should sit down and go through the AITA subreddit with them and see what their take on those situations is
does your potential future spouse think it's reasonable for their mother to be involved in your family planning? or to make comments about your body? do you? how does your future spouse feel about girls and/or boys nights? situations involving exes? cancelling trips last minute? under what circumstances do they think it's reasonable to host somebody in your home and for how long? etc.
and the goal of doing this isn't to agree one-hundred percent on every single thing. it's to understand how you both view obligations, family, friends, finances, conflict, etc. and to make sure that even if you don't have the exact same perspective, you can understand where the other person is coming from without feeling like they're a crazy person. you have to be able to come to reasonable compromises and sometimes that involves one person fully caving, and sometimes it involves the other person fully caving, and sometimes it's both of you giving a little, but you need to understand what things you both are and aren't willing to compromise on because those types of situations are going to come up in a marriage.
also, since this has turned into actual advice: you should talk through why you think what you think, even when you agree, because you might not be agreeing for the same reasons.
Has this been done yet

Being asexual and racist is embarassing as fuck. Being racist at all is obviously embarassing as fuck but the amount of racism and especially antiblackness i have been seeing from asexuals recently is obscene.
One of the only asexual activists is Yasmin Benoit, a Black woman. She has raised so much awareness for the community. She was the first asexual person to lead Pride in London, she started the #thisiswhatasexuallookslike movement and is THE leading voice for the community.
And you all will celebrate international asexuality day on April 6th but we wouldn't even have that if she hadn't cofounded it.
Edit: why are you all too scared to repost this. Cmon. Be vocal about being against racism
the thing about ai witch hunt is that instead of spreading awareness about why and how ai can be harmful, people focus their energy on harassing other people instead. so instead of actually achieving something, fandom space and the internet as a whole just became twice as toxic because people have found a â¨noble way⨠to tell other people to off themselves and get praises for it. youâre not helping. youâre part of the problem
before we start posting that july is gay wrath month letâs consider that july is disability pride month first and foremost. the âbe gay do crimesâ memes can wait
before this post breaches containment and people start going âwhy not both heheheâ i want you to seriously consider the very long history of disabled peopleâs existence being pushed aside and/or seen as secondary. i promise you itâs not going to hurt to hold onto the memes and give disabled people space for visibility and celebration.
i say this as a disabled trans person whose trans identity is made front-and-center to the (mainly cis) people who know iâm trans but my identity as a disabled person is brushed off by the very same people.
Also, before anyone starts trying to do "why can't we have both" uh well, disabled queer people actually still don't have the right to marry, and no one talks about it when discussing gay marriage!! They always frame it as being a won fight that's only in danger re: laws being overturned, and pretend all queer people are able to marry if they want. Disabled queer people who still cannot get married get completely left behind, as do non-queer disabled folks who also don't have the right to marry. I don't typically see queer people fighting for disabled folks to have the right to marry the way I saw disabled queer people organizing for gay marriage back in the day, either.
Y'all already left us behind, maybe don't try to erase us from our own pride month, thanks.
new fanfic writer who has marked their work completed ao3 only to leave a note at the end saying: thanks for all the support guys if you want to read the rest of the fic subscribe to my patreon :)
me, an elder fandom veteran, suddenly having anne rice flashbacks:
no.
NO.
starting to rock back and fourth.
you do not understand.
you were born into an age of peace. i was there Gandalf. i was there three thousand years ago. i remember the cease and desists. i remember authors hunting fanfic writers for sport. i remember when every fic opened with a disclaimer because we genuinely thought it might protect us.
we do not charge money for the copyrighted gay wizard stories.
do not tempt fate youngling.
step away from the paywall.
that is how you summon the ancient evils.
that is how you wake the lawyers.
Remember people, this is against AO3s terms of service. If you see a fic that does this REPORT THAT THING!!! These people may not know better or they might, but them doing this has the potential to ruin things for everyone.
Tell the writer to read the TOS. Writers absolutely CANNOT ask for payment in exchange for fanfic. If they won't take it down ASAP, report it to AO3.
i dont WANT pride months to be over,
on the other hand...

hey so. donât do this.
âcoming from a place of respectâ there is nothing respectful about a comment like this. this is exactly why I say witch hunt, speculations and accusations harm the writing community as much as ai does, if not more.
I am not saying âyouâre an asshole if you think a fic is aiâ. I have come across fics that I believe were ai-generated. but instead of asking (accusing) the authors, I make my own decisions whether Iâll continue reading for the benefit of the doubt or quietly exit the fics and look for something else to read.
because with every accusation like this, thereâs always a chance of a genuine, innocent writer getting wrongly accused.
last but not least, fanfic writers do NOT owe you anything. they write for themselves and their own enjoyment. their ao3 accounts are their houses and they were kind enough to let you in their houses. for free. (you get to read things for free.) you donât go into other peopleâs houses and tell them âactually I think the way you decorate your room is sus. did you actually do it yourself or did you ask a robot to do it for you?â. THEY đđť DONâT đđť OWE đđť YOU đđť ANYTHING. and I say this as someone who is not a fan of ai fics. if you donât like what youâre seeing, quietly leave.
*the following is not about the fic in this specific post. in general, I still strongly believe people who let ai write for them should tag their works as ai accordingly. but if we want more people to be honest about it, weâll have to stop shaming and harassing people who actually tag their ai-generated fics accordingly. harassment is never justified. not to mention, it will only make âai writersâ refrain from tagging their ai-generated works as such. and then thereâs no way for anyone to know for absolute certainty if itâs ai. therefore the raise of witch hunt.
It also greatly bothers me that the commenter pulled the prove a negative fallacy. "I'd love to be proven wrong" how do you expect someone to provide proof of something they didn't do. More often than not, they won't have anything concrete because they didn't do it.
No Longer Taking Questions Involving the Wendigo
I have made my stance on the Wendigo very clear: it is not your stock fantasy monsters to use. It can be used accurately if you ask the tribe in question how to use it, but if youâre looking for some âNative magicâ to throw into the story, look elsewhere.
It is not a hybrid. Your character canât be half-Wendigo or part-Wendigo or whatever. You are either possessed by the spirit, have become the whole spirit, or not involved with the Wendigo.
No, they canât be âgoodâ or anti-herosâ theyâre many culturesâ definition of evil. No, they canât be outside of their original Algonquin/Great Lakes peoples contexts.Â
This also means they donât belong interacting with witches, especially Christian witches.
If you want to be respectful to Native cultures, put the Wendigo in its full context (including the fact it is evil in our societies) with multiple Native characters involved in the plot, or donât use it at all.
The obsession with having Native characters be tied to the Wendigo is honestly disturbing. As mentioned, the Wendigo is often a definition of evil. It is an insatiable hunger; it is pure greed. Itâs wild and untamed. Itâs every negative stereotype of Native Americansâ cannibals, demonic, rabid, indiscriminate hunters, a threat to civilized societyâ wrapped up into one.
Racism against Native Americans founded in these principles is still alive and well. Trace your logic for why you want a greedy cannibal hunter to be tied to your Native character.Â
We are not your monsters.
