Ngl I do think "air conditioning is rightwing" is the funniest take Europeans could possibly come up with. First off, never call Americans ignorant ever again. Second, get help, possibly in the form of an AC unit.
i thought this was a genuine joke i am baffled.
i’m actually frying (but not really because i’m an american luckily)
It's not a joke. They think A/C is killing the environment but heating is fine somehow? I think it may be an elaborate plot to cut healthcare costs by sacrificing the elderly.
Related to that last headline, I'd like to thank all American Jews for blasting their Jewish Weather Machine directly at France. Yall doing good work.
No, in a lot of the European countries, large-scale adoption of AC isn't the same as heating. Starting from home design, which is focused on keeping the heat contained in colder climates, instead of throwing it off. And heating in EU is rarely 20+ Celsius, too. So it's really not the same. Plus, even if it were, it would still be bad for environment because you at the minimum doubling energy demands.
The right wing aspect of it is slapping an air conditioner on Global Warming as a patch, instead of working on leaving fossil fuel behind and other centralised measures. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also, in a lot of places, in historic districts, it's really not that easy, or even possible, to install AC due to architectural design.
I also want to remind the lovely Americans I follow that US is having crisis with ACs too. It's not a given your grid will be able to handle the increased pressure (or that you guys will be able to afford that). my US acquaintances already reporting blackouts in 35-40+ temperature. So like. You can ridicule the Greens concern all you want, but it may involve you too...
And I know that when most people say "Europeans" they think about EU specifically. But consider this: russia is routinely attacking Ukrainian electrical grid; widespread AC adoption is not possible here. Even now - without any massive attack recently, - we already have scheduled blackouts in some places. The war can easily spread to other European countries - besides, russia already started the sabotage campaigns, proving that it can and willing to target civilian infrastructure.
also, joking about weather machine in this political climate... Especially if you consider that "France blames US for the heatwave" because of a legit issue with greenhouse gas emissions, US being the second largest country of, and getting called out specifically because American tourists made noises on twi about France not having AC. A-la "we wouldn't need an AC if it wasn't for your emissions" and they ain't wrong.
Also one if the factors for heatwave in Europe IS the war russia is waging in my country.
What, you thought destroying ecosystems, burning forests and polluting the Black Sea won't have effect on the continent? Ok.
