Hi there! Day seventeenth of my Seven Kinhdom’s Queens serie!

Today, Queen Daena Targaryen, known as « The Defiant », wife of Baelor I, lover of Aegon IV and mother of the Bastard Daemon Blackfyre.

That’s one of my favorite design so far, she’s ✨ICONIC✨

Idk, maybe because her lackluster post-canon character is a direct consequence of her being the main character's love interest?

This question gets thrown around a lot and I think it's pretty disingenuous. Mostly because a lot of Zutara shippers/Kataang antis bring up a ton of points that have nothing to do with Aang. Like her not getting a statue. Or her just being a healer. Or her not doing anything with healing. Those points can absolutely be discussed separately from her relationship with Aaag and I've seen many people do it.

But it's also the irrefutable truth that Katara was sidelined so much because she was Aang's love interest. Evidenced by Toph who wasn't Aang's love interest not being sidelined.

It's also a (small) part of Katara's character that she wants to find love, which is something people who make that argument ignore. That's why she's so receptive to Jet and why she keeps bothering Aunt Wu. So even if you try to make this argument, Katara's character is already established as wanting to eventually be with someone. Discussing it when analyzing Katara is not being a "fake feminist." It's considering every aspect of her character. Take it up with Bryke, not us.

Focused too much on aang.

Like just say youre a lame pick me zuko stan and go watch something else or go read some fanfic. Why should zuko have equal screen time? To aang!?!?!

If thats your main complaint you shouldn't have watched the movie in the first place.

More screen time =\= equal screen time, and even with the movie focusing on Aang, the other characters being cardboard cutouts is certainly a worthy critique, especially since those characters are part of what made atla good in the first place.

"so many zukka moments" really??? what, like zuko mentioning that tagah was attractive? that sokka called zuko's face pretty? (as if friends can't also say this.) this is not even me saying this to hate, but that's so so minimal. it truly baffles me that people will eat shit like this up, and then when someone ships two characters who canonically almost died to save each other, that's seen as delusional.

I’m not going to say I know these characters better than GRRM, but the wife of a Crown Prince being okay and even happy for him “finding love” and taking a betrothed noblewoman from a major house as his second wife is fundamentally incompatible with the world he created. There are multiple instances where his precious succession wars—aka the only conflicts he’s interested in—are ultimately started because a king had multiple children from different wives (or mistresses/lovers…or his wife’s children weren’t his). The characters in the main series are aware of this, which is why no noblewomen in the five books welcome their husband’s illegitimate children with open arms or are friends with their mistresses (which is why Rhaenys’ acceptance of Addam when she didn’t in the book and Catelyn’s monologue about not loving Jon Snow meant she was morally lacking when it wasn’t in the books is so annoying. Also why TWOIAF with Naerys/MeliSue is so stupid, but we all know the supplemental material is a step down). It just seems like Elia’s acceptance along with ignoring Lyanna’s canonical age as 16 at death is some Rhaegar apology to make his actions seem less inconsiderate and creepy…even if they still led to untold suffering of thousands and horrific deaths for both women. Considering that the Blackfyres are considered “enemies” of the Târgs (even though none of them killed or even injured one), and that the recent adaptations have engaged in heavy Târg apology (including to characters who were flat villains in the books like Aemond or Aerion) while reducing the people who rightfully opposed them into one dimensional hateable villains (who even is Ormund Hightower in the show? Or Criston Cole), it’s not hard to imagine how they’d “adapt” the First Blackfyre. GRRM sounds like he’s squeezing all the money he can out of this universe while he still can, but I don’t have to respect any of these adaptations that contradict established characters and worldbuilding so he can make a few extra dollars.
