Dumb sketch for today (This is just a joke, please don't take this too seriously, I just wanted to make a joke on their sibling dynamic)
Zatanna #5 (DC, August 2026) variant cover by Bruno Redondo
Re-the US failures with drones, isn’t it a good thing that at the very least we are discovering our weaknesses and can adapt to them? Not defending Trump and Pegleg Pete but our military is extremely competent and perhaps this the opportunity to adjust our doctrine and tactics, or am I being naively optimistic for whatever reason?
People died because of our failure to adapt, and this wasn't an unknown technology or a surprise. Iran exported the Shahed to Russia and we've seen these drones for years at this point used in Ukraine...and we have not adapted. This is more than bureaucratic inertia, this is willing blindness. We didn't prepare for the war with Iran and people paid the price with their lives. Dying for a cause can be noble. Dying because of a mistake is a tragedy. Dying because of a lack of forethought is stupidity. This was the last one.
No, I wouldn't trust this administration to competently address the need. They've shown to be unwilling to do so, and the sheer level of corruption worries me that any drone interceptor we get is going to be becauae Eric or Don Jr. is a board member, rather than delivering a cost-effective and quality product.
This was not just on Trump, the Pentagon has been napping and has failed our service members, and so far it doesn't seem to be moving at anything beyond a glacial pace.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

To make matters worse, before the war Ukraine offered to sell Sting drones to the US along with how to manufacture them. Trump of course, said no because that would mean giving Ukraine money. Then, after the US saw the effectiveness at mass Shahed drones, has changed it's mind and is looking to buy Sting drones along with manufacturing deals to make them domestically.
Lives could have been saved if Trump had taken the deal, but that asshole's hatred for Zelenskyy and Ukraine lead to 14(?) US servicemen and women losing their lives.
I say it every time: the insecurity of Donald J Trump is a matter of national security.
100%. The next thing he wants to do is invade Cuba (Rubio is probably pushing for that as well), since that will actually be an easy victory give a boost to his bruised ego after the Iran debacle. But more lives will be lost for no good reason other than his insecurity and ego.
God I hate how politically unaware voters are.

I bet on losing dogs
So what's your take on Graham Platner?
As any regular readers would have probably already surmised, I'm not a fan. With the latest revelations regarding his violent idealizations and conduct toward women, I am confident that my prior suspicion toward him has been vindicated. His boosters have been trying to sell his past comments on Reddit as something from the past, that he has become a better person. I was skeptical of that, mostly because I saw little in the way of remorse. Now it seems that yeah, he's just a shitty person.
His whole brand of a combat vet and humble oysterman is a fraud. Born wealthy, flunking out of two elite prep schools, upkeep paid for by his wealthy mother, he's a nepo-baby failson instead of a hard-scrabble working stiff - his schtick is about as genuine as Trump's photo-op slinging fries at the drive-thru made him working class. On it's own, I don't much care about political branding, every politican tries to sell themselves as the little guy. But when you sell a lie like that, it makes the explanations for the other things less credible. They become weights in the pan that tip the scale when enough of them are added.
His Reddit comments don't paint a flattering picture. Putting my vehement anti-communism aside, you can explain someone identifying as a communist on Reddit as a combination of internet edge-lordism and Reddit being a highly left-leaning platform, but his comments painted a pretty regular pattern of bigotry and condescension. Was this because of PTSD and alcohol abuse or was he just expressing his contempt at those he sees as his moral and intellectual inferiors? More weights get put in the pan.
His conduct towards women is certainly personally reprehensible. He even admits to serial adultery which is definitely not a showcase of sound judgment. Defenders say that's a private matter, but it's a security concern, as adultery is classic blackmail material, not to mention just very irresponsible. Lindsey Fifield's allegations are more damning. In isolation, it's a he-said, she-said. Could she be lying for a political hit job? Quite possibly. But Platner's pattern of toxic behavior, his volatility that even other partner have stated, his alcohol abuse, and his statements regarding violent ideation toward potential home invaders mean that we need to examine this seriously. A conservative might have challenged him on his political beliefs, and he might have escalated physically, particulatly if he was abusing alcohol at the time. He may have wanted to pin her down to dominate her, to show his strength. Again, weights in the pan. Accepting Platner's defense in one affair becomes harder the more weights get added to the pan.
The Totenkopf tattoo is a classic example. He says he had no idea of the connotations which is hard to swallow. The Totenkopf was not some obscure symbol, it was the cap insignia of the SS, it's one of the most recognizable symbols of the Third Reich after the swastika and the Reichsadler. Do I believe that a bunch of drunk jarheads would get a regrettable tattoo? Absolutely. Do I believe that he carried it around for decades with no knowledge of what it meant? That's a whopper, and he'd have to earn a lot of good faith for me to take his word on it. But when I look at the weights in the pan, I really don't think he's earned it.
This points to another troubling development in politics. Our hyper-partisanship is bad enough, where you have to support "our guy" no matter what. Now we're fetishizing outsider status to the point where we're taking shitty behavior as a badge of honor. Bigotry becomes honesty, toxic behavior and shitty judgment means they're normal like the rest of us - as long as you're a populist of course. I guess trash politics means you get to be a trash person. And since we keep rewarding this shittiness by pushing you to the heights of power, I don't see this changing.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

As we get closer to the midterms, have your views changed on which side you think might take the majority?
Given Trump's approval rating and his push to monopolize candidates in the GOP, no, I think the Dems are still going to take the House.
The Senate is much harder, and the Dems nominating Platner is certainly not going to win over independents in Maine - and while Tallarico has better odds against serial embezzeler and overall piece of shit Ken Paxton over John Cornyn, he's almost certainly not going to win unless a lot of Republican voters simply stay home on election day.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

I'd honestly have the Democrats as the slight favorites for the Senate right now, something I didn't think I'd ever say going into 2026. Some might worry about Michigan, but Rogers couldn't win with Trump on the ballot in a R+2.6 environment, he ain't winning in an at least D+8 environment.
Platner's scandals haven't really hurt him, with him breaking the 50% threshold (ranked choice voting state) in several polls. He's gonna win, if only because Collins is outright hated at this point and Maine hates Trump on top of that. Talarico has a legit shot, Paxton is as toxic as they come and most polls have Talarico either ahead or tied with Paxton. Given that Beto only lost by 2.56 in 2018 with a much stronger economy, Talarico has a good shot.
The Dems will protect GA and NH pretty easily, and Cooper will sleep walk in NC, and Peltola in AK and Brown in OH win in a D+8 or more environment. RCP has it at D+8.1 right now, when it was D+3.7 on May 29th 2018, the Democrats won by 8.4 that year.
The Iran War is pissing off voters everywhere, and Trump's greatest strength, the economy, has become his, and the Republicans greatest weakness, and the Republicans are going to get destroyed for it.
Reblogging this once more because my mom and I legitimately laughed to tears.
