One of the reasons I found it hard to get away from #MyComfortingPain is because not talking shit to yourself is so EASY. Like all you have to do is literally just... not. Just say positive stuff. And the effect it has is almost IMMEDIATE. It doesn't cure everything overnight, by any means, but you START feeling better immediately.

But that's the problem - it was always that easy, and that means that you've been sabotaging yourself for years now. That means you could have done this at any time and all that pain and darkness and self-hatred you've let drag you down over the years has been basically your fault and all you had to do was think the happy thoughts and say the nice words and half of your self-esteem problems vanish...

... and the thought that you're your own worst enemy and you've done this all to yourself is too much to bear. The darkness HAS to be too powerful to overcome, that's the only reason you haven't done it yet. The war HAS to be unwinnable, that's why you haven't won yet.

So, you talk positive about yourself, and it feels good, there's a part of your brain that goes, "Wait. No. That's.... that's not right. This war looks winnable. This can't be the solution to the unwinnable war. Stop doing that. Come back to the darkness, or we'll have to rethink everything we think is real. I'm not ready for a paradigm shift this big."
