I'm firmly convinced that if Star Trek: Janeway ever happened it would be the last nail in the coffin of JC. However, I still think there's so much about Janeway that would be amazing to see. I'd love a show that would give full agency and voice to older women, I'm talking 70+.
And Janeway is such a great role model because she was fully in acceptance and in love with her feminine side (even though she insisted on that whole no love and martyrdom theme but whatever). She was never trying to me more masculine. She embraced her femininity and led with it, not despite of it. And there is so much Kathryn Janeway still has to offer that I desperately want to see it.
What I'm imagining is something like what The Expanse did with Avasarala. Give me Janeway as a heavyweight galactic diplomat in a room full of admirals and ambassadors.
I want her to tell some raging, male politician "oh I'm sorry, it was not my intention to offend your tender sensibilities, Jeffrie," deliberately forgoing whatever title he holds
Hollywood is terrified of women over 60. Over 70 is basically uncharted territory unless you're Judi Dench or whatever. I want Star Trek, a franchise literally built on the premise that the future is better, to have the guts to put a woman in her seventies at the center of a political thriller and let her be the most formidable person in every single scene.
Don't give me pew pew pew starship exploding pew pew pew the world is ending pew pew pew borg borg pew pew pew
Give me Admirals Janeway with grey hair and and absolutely zero patience for bullshit diplomacy.
And if we're feeling particularly generous, let's not kill off Chakotay and explore a mature love, reclaiming second and third chances at personal happiness. Gimme old people in love.

A perfect example of Mimicry being used as a defense mechanism! For example, this cute little guy will NOT be eaten by ANYONE, because he looks like he's covered in coconut shavings!
As a deeply kinky and queer trans woman, I have often been told that The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a film I should appreciate. It is routinely described as a cornerstone of queer culture, a landmark of LGBTQIA+ representation, and a celebration of freedom from restrictive social norms. Yet the more I engage with the film and its legacy, the less I understand why it continues to receive such uncritical praise.
I don't deny that Rocky Horror was provocative in 1975. At a time when queer visibility in mainstream media was exceptionally limited, a film that openly embraced sexual nonconformity and challenged conventional ideas about gender was unusual and, for many viewers, liberating. Historical significance, however, should not exempt a work from criticism. If anything, culturally influential works deserve greater scrutiny, not less.
One of my core problems with Rocky Horror is the way it is frequently discussed as trans representation despite containing themes and portrayals that many trans women would recognize as deeply familiar forms of transmisogyny.
Dr. Frank-N-Furter is often celebrated as a queer icon. Depending on who is interpreting the film, Frank is described as a drag queen, a transvestite, a transgender figure, a nonbinary character, or simply someone beyond modern categories altogether. Yet regardless of which label is applied, Frank embodies many of the same stereotypes that have historically been weaponized against transfeminine people.
Frank is deceptive. Frank is sexually aggressive. Frank disregards consent. Frank manipulates others for personal gratification. Frank infiltrates spaces where they are not expected to be and uses disguise and deception to obtain sexual access to others. These are character traits central to the plot.
The film's treatment of consent further intensifies these concerns. Frank deceives both Brad and Janet into sexual encounters by disguising themselves as the other partner. These encounters are framed as comedic, liberating, and transformative. Contemporary audiences are often encouraged to interpret them as expressions of sexual freedom.
Consent requires knowledge and agency. The fact that these encounters are presented humorously does not erase the deception at their core. When audiences excuse these actions because Frank is charismatic, transgressive, or queer, they create a troubling double standard. Behaviors that would be condemned in most other contexts become acceptable because they are wrapped in camp aesthetics and cultural nostalgia.
As a trans woman living in a society that routinely accuses trans people of deception, predation, and sexual threat, I find it difficult to view this portrayal as harmless. For decades, anti-trans rhetoric has centered on the claim that transfeminine people and trans women are men disguising themselves as women in order to gain access to others. It is the logic behind bathroom panic campaigns, anti-trans legislation, and countless acts of discrimination and violence. Watching a character coded through gender nonconformity embody those exact fears does not feel subversive. It feels disturbingly familiar.
Defenders of the film often argue that Frank is not meant to represent trans women. In a strictly technical sense, they ~may~ be correct. The film emerged from a cultural context in which drag, cross-dressing, gender nonconformity, and transgender identity were frequently conflated. Frank is not a straightforward depiction of a trans woman.
The problem is that culture rarely operates according to technical distinctions. Audiences do not always separate drag performers, cross-dressers, transfeminine people, and trans women as neatly as academics do. Historically, society has often lumped all gender-nonconforming people together and projected the same fears onto all of them. Whether intended or not, Frank now colloquially exists within that history.
This becomes especially troubling when the film is promoted to modern trans audiences as empowering representation. I do not see empowerment in a character whose gender nonconformity is intertwined with predatory behavior. I do not see liberation in a portrayal that echoes stereotypes still used against my community today.
What frustrates me more is the tendency to treat criticism of Rocky Horror as a rejection of queer history. It isn't. Understanding the role a work played in the past does not require celebrating every aspect of it in the present. Queer communities have spent decades asking mainstream society to engage critically with its cultural icons. We should be willing to do the same with our own.
For me, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is best understood as a historical artifact rather than a timeless masterpiece. It reflects the limitations, assumptions, and contradictions of the era that produced it. While it may have challenged some forms of social conservatism at the time, it also perpetuated ideas about gender nonconformity that many trans women are still forced to confront today.

He didn't steal 10 million dollars. They made that number up as a loss, they never fucking had it. Rockstar has spent more than a billion fucking dollars on GTA VI and will likely make billions more when it gets released.
Uber is a fucking shell game of a company designed to leech investor capital and output bootleg cabs.
Nvidia posted a profit in 2023 of $4.37 billion. This is like someone stealing less than a penny from me.
And they lock this kid in a prison hospital for LIFE?
What with GTA VI going up for pre-order i'd just like to remind everyone that rockstar conspired with the UK government to lock an 18-year-old away for life for hacking them.
Choke. Just think about it, seriously. Think about what choking is and imagine speaking while it’s happening. That would fuckin’ hurt, man.
Hiss. Look, it’s just not possible, okay? No matter how “evil” you want your character to seem.
Snarl. Animals snarls. The Beast from Beauty and the Beast snarls. The Hulk snarls. You know who doesn’t snarl? PEOPLE WHEN THEY’RE SPEAKING.
Shriek. Come on, 99% of the time, “shriek” is not the word you want.Let’s face it: if you put an exclamation point at the end of the sentence, your reader gets the picture. Don’t bring to mind banshees and screaming toddlers.
Sneer. I’m not even going to bother explaining this one. “SNEER” ISN’T EVEN A SOUND.
Choked is not meant to be taken literally, an obstruction in the throat. It means they’re having difficultly speaking, they’re forcing the words out with difficulty. Often used when the character is convulsed in tears or laughter.
Hiss is a low, threatening whisper. Raw, guttural, vicious. It is NOT a literal hiss like an animal, it is a tone of voice that serves the same function. Someone will hiss that they’re going to cut your throat- a message from one person to the other.
Snarl is the same kind of thing. Not literal, it’s a tone of voice that serves the same function. It’s raw and gutteral like a hiss, but more savage than vicious. It’s loud, it’s showy, it’s intimidating. It’s very alpha male, big man, look at how fucking dangerous I am. I’ll take ALL of you on. Even if they’re snarling at one person in particular, nobody better back them up or they’re gonna get fucked up too.
Shriek. Come on, seriously? We’ve all heard people shriek either in fear or outrage. High pitched, loud, out of control, feminine. Men can shriek, but it’s funny and emasculating. Think angry italian women throwing pots and pans or ladies on tables who just saw a mouse.
Sneering is contempt whether it’s a facial expression or a tone of voice or both. There are a hundred different ways to sneer with your voice, but it all adds up to the same thing.

Quite a bit, as a matter of fact! I can do far less of it now than I used to, as I'm 46 and badly out of shape, but I've been on a few hikes recently with my girlfriend and they were wonderful! But, back in the day, I was a Boy Scout (pre-transition, obv) and that love of nature really stuck with me. We'd go camping every month, sleeping in tents, and whatnot. I even did a 5-day backpacking trip during one of those week-long summer camps. It's totally a recreational thing for me nowadays... I really hadn't in years until I got with my GF and she said she loved being outdoorsy and that was something she was interested in, so I dusted off my walking shoes and hit a local nature preserve with her. Once it's not [checks temp] 97 DEGREES out, I'd like to do it again soon!
41. Do you cook or bake
I cook, mostly. I can bake but it stresses me out, honestly. Cooking is more like jazz - toss in ingredients measured only by your heart, hearing things sizzle in pans, etc. Baking is just chemistry and I suck at it. I don't have the TRUST it requires to just follow a recipe and get it exactly correct and get the exact result I'm supposed to. The most recent thing I baked was a cake over the winter, and I almost fucked it up entirely by not baking it long enough. I made cake soup. Luckily you can literally just pop it back in the oven and finish it, and it turned out okay, but none of it was fun. (except watching my husband enjoy it)
I really like cooking, tho, and I think I'm pretty decent at it. I pick up new recipes pretty easily, and I've even really enjoyed learning new ones for the ones I love as a little act of devotion to them. I've also recently started a bit of a D/s dynamic with my girlfriend, and part of it is cooking for her when we're together. I enjoy serving her so she can relax and put her feet up, and she enjoys (mostly) being served.
im so sick of unnecessary dinner scenes in movies 😡 every fucking movie they just want to titillate you with some food because they think you’re a dumb animal who just wants to see mashed potatoes bouncing. if its an IMPORTANT dinner scene where they explain lore then whatever i understand. but they shove useless meals into every movie these days and its disgusting
its true though sex scenes are bad and you only are defending them cuz you wont question that men put their fetishes into everything. movies by women literally just dont have sex scenes and if rhey do its not gratuitous and lasts two seconds or its played for comedy . Fuck you and your dinners idc bro
i mean, it’s true! as long as you discount the crazy outliers like Jane Campion, Mary Harron, Sofia Coppola, Andrea Arnold, Julia Ducournau, Claire Denis, Céline Sciamma, Anna Biller, Jennifer Kent, Eliza Hittman, Cheryl Dunye, Dee Rees, Donna Deitch, Joanna Hogg, Rose Glass, Diablo Cody, Emma Seligman, Kitty Green, Halina Reijn, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Charlotte Wells,

i talk about transitioning and all anyone ever says is "I hope you don't regret it" what if instead we said I hope you love it. I hope it's everything you ever wanted. I hope you live the rest of your life in utter bliss. etc etc.
I hope you transition and I hope it's the best thing you ever did and I hope you never look back and I hope you finally feel comfortable in your own skin
