Shaggy and Scooby's Seafood Angel
The Clam Cabin is in your blood, seriously it is because Skipper Shelton is your dad, and you've been working after school since you were fourteen. You loved working there, the smell of the sea, the joy on people's faces when they found a favorite dish, and of course you loved the regulars.
Now, to Shaggy and Scooby you are an angel of food service. You made sure everything was exactly how they like it regardless of the dish, plus you would ask them about their mystery solving and actually be interested in what they had to say. Now, Shaggy never had a crush on you and you never had a crush on him, but there was clearly a friendship forged by food.
But there was one you thing you hated about the job, the impatient, entitled locals and tourists who felt the need to treat you as a robot and not a person. That was the one thing you didn't like but you could handle it when your dad was around, mostly because he would step in and tell the customer to pound sand.
But on this day, you were working with the Saturday lunch rush with the other employee and your father had gone out to restock on something or other. Things were going well, you and and the assistant slinging out dishes and drinks in a timely manner as the line seemly grew longer yet shorter at the same time.
Shaggy and Scooby were in that line, dreaming of the delious food that would soon grace their stomachs. They were the second person in line at this point, with only two people in front of them, a woman dressed in a sun hat, pink tee shirt, white shorts and sandals and a a man in a hawaiian shirt, khaki cargo shorts, and socks with sandals. They were had just ordered and you warned them that one of the items they ordered wasn't gonna be made because you'd run out of a key ingredient.
Shaggy and Scooby watch as the couple start accosting you, berating you for, in their eyes, not planning ahead. You were used to mean customers, but it still hurt being yelled at by people old enough to be your parents over something so small. Shaggy and Scooby just watch, unsure of what to do when Scooby taps the woman on the shoulder. She spins around in a fury, glaring daggers at them from behind her sunglasses.
"Like, hey man. It's not their fault they ran out, calamari mozzarella sticks are very popular," Shaggy says, trying his best to sound brave.
"Reah! So be rice to rem," Scooby says.
"Well they should've planned better and it is not any of your business!" She yells.
Who they assume is her husband keeps yelling at you while Shaggy and Scooby try to be brave and make the woman at least stop yelling but it doesn't seem to be working. You look on the verge of tears at this point, just wanting the sand to swallow you up.
"What in blue blazes is going on here?" A deep voice asks.
Your father, your salt savor, had come back. The couple turns on him but he, with his toned down sailors vocabulary, told them to either leave or order something else. As soon as the couple storms off Skipper turns towards you, telling you to take a break and collect yourself. You nod and sit at one of the restaurant's tables while Shaggy and Scooby place their usual order.
Once they have their food, Shaggy and Scooby walk over to where you're sitting, asking if the table is taken. You let them sit, and Shaggy and Scooby place their food down.
"Are you ok?" Shaggy asks.
"Yeah, nothing I'm not used to," you tell him.
"Like, they were so mean over calamari mozzarella sticks. That's, like, crazy," Shaggy says, taking a bite of his food.
You shrug and tell them that what that couple pulled isn't too uncommon. As you wipe your eyes Scooby pushes a box of calamari rings your way. You go to push it back but he waves a paw in a "go on" gesture. You start eating as they two tell you about thier latest mystery until your break is over.
"Well, back to grind. Hey, see you two again tomorrow," You say.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow," Shaggy and Scooby say with a wave in unison.
You smile at the duo, who have gone back tot heir food, and sigh. For every karen or kevin, there's a Shaggy and Scooby and that makes your days just a bit better.
