ayo this pretty cool
This page provides information on open source wheelchairs.
[id: active style manual wheelchair with frame made of rectangle wood planks screwed together. end id]
as we know active type wheelchair very expensive, & repair need buy from specific medical manufacturer n take very long time. someone (who wheelchair user themself of near 40 years) made open source active manual wheelchair where most (if not all?) material from commercial easy get materials! wood, plastic, pvc pipe, & those commercial aluminum square pipe things. n they put guide made them yourself in link for anyone want try make
this video from their instagram show their wood frame wheelchair actually pretty durable, include clip from everyday use & even drop wheelchair all over place (basically imagine what airline do to them…) - n wheelchair stay in tact! n even if some part break - it easy change because wood planks all screwed together so you just buy wood plank & unscrew & rescrew.
not great for people w advanced seating positioning needs probably (think if only problem is easy butt pressure sore, maybe can still use this + supportive cushion but think beyond that it get hard). but if like you don’t need those things then maybe fun project?
have not use for self so can’t actually talk about experience but it look pretty cool

My fantasy is that this gets enough heat that His Holiness is forced to address it
Okay but this is serious, I work in retail and I had a lady come up and ask for 2 $500 Google play gift cards. We have been trained to look for these scams and to warn the customers NEVER give the card numbers over the phone unless you have met this person face to face. I told the lady this and she started crying, saying they were the IRS and that if she hung up they would call the police and have her arrested. They wanted to keep her on the phone so she couldn't call her husband, who was more aware of how the IRS works. I was able to convince her to hang up and call the police on *them* instead, and saved her $500.
Scams are serious, people lose a lot of money and older people are targeted the worst because they're easy targets.
First of all, the IRS will *never* call you and ask for money, and they definitely won't call the cops on you. They'll get your money if they really want it through taxes.
But now they're trying to target our generation using crypto, which is super hard to trace if the money gets lost. So they're getting smarter, and they'll use whatever they can to get you to give them money.
What you really need to know or take away from this is: NEVER, and I mean EVER, buy a gift card and give the barcode number on the back to someone over the phone. It is ALWAYS, 100%, a scam!
Please be safe and hang up on these fuckers the second they ask you to buy a gift card.
More pertinent to the 18-to-35 crowd are employment scams. I don't mean in the stolen wages or unpaid labor of capitalism, either. In the past couple years, there has been a massive boom in listings for exploitative, nonexistent, and occasionally illegal "job opportunities". Worst of all, you may never be paid for a second of it.
Generally,"if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is" are wise guiding words for any opportunity you stumble across. Some things to look out for are:
Ambiguous requirements/description – This doubles as a scam and toxic workplace red flag. Job listings should include an overview of responsibilities, and ideal candidate descriptions. Legitimate employers who can't communicate that won't get better if you're hired.
Fees and "investments" – Job applications do not cost money, and employees are never personally responsible for the purchase of stock, investment, etc. These can both be one-off scams, or a hook into a multi-level marketing scheme.
Carrot on a stick – Compensation does not include the potential of earning later. Be especially wary of introductory pay lasting months or time frame specific raise "opportunities". There's a good chance they have a high turnover, and are running out the clock on cheap labor.
Travel without compensation – This is another dual scam/toxic workplace red flag. If travel is a requirement, you should be compensated for the time and cost. If the position is not transport, investigative, or administrative-related, travel requirements are also generally worth interrogation.
Limited staff – With some exceptions, oh my god, be suspicious of any job offer where you'll be the only employee. Even with small businesses, they should be upfront about the pressure, have a contingency plan for when you're unable to come in, and can demonstrate the ability to be professional and managerial.
I'm sure there are other warning signs, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Just stay vigilant, y'all!
yeah I got scammed by a fake rental listing, they apparently just take application fees and never rent the place out. I think it's still up to this day.
fake rentals can also be a duplicated rental listing where they list a house that's not actually for rent on craigslist and then you, who are moving in from out of town, send them your deposit and your first month's rent only to discover that somebody else lives in "your" house the instant you show up and your fake landlord has disappeared.
anyways, don't try to rent a place without checking it out first, and even then, we wary of weird vibes.
there’s this clever email scam where they look up your organization’s president, and then send you an email from the president asking you to pick up gift cards for a surprise party, oh and he’s going into a meeting so he can’t take a call but could you send him the number on the back of the cards?

from one chronically anxious person to another: the world is not going to go up in flames. What happens will be more slow, more bureaucratic, more boring. There is no catastrophe to end all catastrophes, no rapture, no sudden end. You can't give into the call of the void, because there is no void. So you just have to do the work to make tomorrow a better place, anyway. Because that's how it gets better.
#A lot of people want it to be too late#Because that means they can just throw their hands up and blame everyone else and not have to do the work anymore#But as long as there are people left it's never too late#Things will keep getting worse for a long time but if we keep working then it WILL turn around#We'll see some horrible days coming up but they will give way to a better future
Overly Honest Methods in science.
ooh this version has some ones i haven’t seen before, priceless
#we chose macrocystis because every other kelp was rotting at that time of year #we kept the crabs 12 to a sea table because we were sharing the space and couldnt use more #the crabs were subject to a non-natural light cycle because other researchers kept leaving the lights on overnight (via Dicrocoeliumdendriticum)
Archaeologist. We sometimes choose places to dig because our gut says “this is nice, I’d settle here”. I’ve had field directors say “this has paleo energy” about areas. Often we see big hill in our dig area, we dig on big hill.
Most recently, I’ve found two sites because I was walking to my next hole and saw some petrified wood I wanted. Started picking up pieces and saw a half buried biface lmao.
Other site, I was walking and imagined a little native girl running along the ridge. I had a gut feeling to dig like 5m from where the hole was. Found a utilized petrified wood flake. Could’ve written it off as a plow fact, but due to all the pet wood I’d been collecting throughout the area (I’m a greedy little thing who wants pretty rocks), I knew the was it was broken was inconsistent to how the pet wood naturally breaks.
What sealed the deal for me was cleaning the mud off, and it cut me so, yup, definitely utilized.
So glad you commented this because I was looking for the term for “people saw a pretty rock and took it with them” forEVER now and couldn’t find it. Fuckin love manuports

We found our T. rex last summer by just walking around and sticking a very long, thin stick in the mud until we hit something hard, then we dug.
@katy-l-wood PLEASE tell us about your t-rex
Here’s the article/press release I wrote about it!

genuine question from someone who would rather chew their arm off than go to a public gym, and also doesnt have a lot of money: how do you safely get into strength training? are there youtube channels, apps (android), etc anyone recommends that makes it approachable and don't lean into diet culture / body shaming?
also the biggest thing that keeps me from working out is that I already have joint and spinal issues and moving the wrong way can fuck up a knee or a shoulder or my spine for days. I really don't want to injure myself, and have unwittingly done so before. resources that are extremely clear on exactly how to move and offer gentler / alternative ways to move for people with limited range are vital.
Okay, so this may not technically be strength training, but muscles are dumber than bricks and cannot tell the difference between your own bodyweight and actual weights.
So, may I recommend:
Hey everyone! My name is Hampton and my brand is Hybrid Calisthenics. You can find me by that name pretty much everywhere on social media.
He runs a YouTube channel where he goes over how to work your way up to more complex exercises (for instance, his pull-ups videos start with using a door jamb and moving your weight back and forth) so it's good for easing yourself into things.
You also don't have to fork out for expensive weights and such if you don't want to/can't. Substitute with stuff you either already have at home or can get from the supermarket and build up the weight you can exercise with. 500 gram cans of butter beans then 750 gram bottles of pasta sauce. 1 litre drink bottle then your 1.5 litre milk bottle. 3 litre bulk-buy bottle of laundry detergent. Etc. One of my dogs weighs 13 kilos and I pick her up on the regular (to her delight). One weighs 16 kg and I pick him up too (to his consternation and mild disapproval). You don't have to fit out some fancy home gym before you can start strength training.
I second Hybrid Calisthenics, that's the program I use. It's run by one guy who's taken it upon himself to make exercising more accessible and it's completely free! Each exercise has different variations based on your ability and each variation is further divided into different levels of difficulty so you can work up to where you want to be. If you can't do a single push up for example then this program will help you work up to the point where you can, and if you're a master of push ups then there are more advanced body weight exercises you can tackle so you can keep moving forward in your training without stagnating. The routine offers a full body workout with absolutely no equipment required for the beginning levels. The only reason you would need to buy anything is if you want to work up to a full pull up, at which point you would need actual pull up rings
Here's his actual website which I feel is easier to navigate than the YouTube channel on its own and organizes things in a way that's easy to understand. He explains everything you need to know about the routine and each individual exercise has both a text description and a video tutorial
[ begin id: a screenshot of tumblr tags that read "#i started my mom lifting with me 1.5 years ago. it's improved her balance and strength so much #she has avoided falling 4 times and i no longer worry about her #she lifts heavy boxes with a grin of pride #i've been teaching her about how much it helps women to strength train and she LOVES it #when we started she could barely lift 3lb #she now wields 7lb dumbbells in each hand as of our workout today!! #her foot pain and back pain have improved SIGNIFICANTLY since she's strengthened her core #she was bordering on immobility bc of how much pain she was in w her arthritis and spinal conditions #today she can hold a plank for 30 seconds and do 10 pushups!!!!! #shes almost 60 and she tells me she wants to do this w me forever #i love her so much and i am so proud of her working so hard to strengthen her body #after 50 years of diet culture and her own mother telling her to be dainty and frail #she's strong and she isn't scared of falling or tripping #we do 5 min of balance work each day at the end of every workout :)" / end id ]
I think we should have a turn of phrase for "I'm not in the right, but I AM annoyed with this situation, so I just need to go bitch to a friend about this before I suck it up and go do the right thing" because more and more I'm finding this is a critical element of functional adulthood.

I asked my husband for tomatoes on my sandwich, and now I hear him in the kitchen saying, "come here, little tomatoes. Your time has come." I only asked for tomato because he said he wanted to use the little tomatoes he grew and harvested from the garden... but I didn't expect to hear him executing them softly.
He said, "these slice amazingly for baby tomatoes! I don't think you understand."
