In a fit of greed I can't really explain, I got a kilo of dry pitless dates for the equivalent of $5 (what a bargain in my country) that I've had in my pantry for a whole month. I snacked on them now and then, kinda regretting my thoughtlessness – I don't even like them that much– and fearing the tiny-moth invasion that's been ravaging my kitchen would get to them sooner or later. Well, it finally happened yesterday, I found a maggot wriggling around in the date pot (dude, those things are voracious, we got supposedly airtight containers and the little shits still made it inside!). But as I'm not usually deterred from eating by a mere bit of free protein, I decided to bit the bullet and make use of the dates before the invasion makes them too maggotty to really eat.

I almost burned my food processor's motor and I might have gone a bit heavy on the sea salt, but those date "brownies" are actually pretty nice... I mean, they'll never be real brownies, of course, but they're fudgy and full of nutty goodness (please don't... just don't).
