Lena’s POV

Helicopters kept a spotlight on the two Kryptonians as they dueled—National City’s Girl of Steel losing by leaps and bounds. Something inside me began to crack seeing blonde hair blowing around as Supergirl hung over the edge of the building by her throat. When she began to fall, everything felt as if it was moving in slow motion. We all watched in horror as Supergirl plummeted towards the pavement.

“Lena!”

My body moved before I realized what was happening. I couldn’t have. Did I actually hear my name? Hearing boots and orders, I pushed my body to run faster, heels be damned.

Sliding into the crater, I heard the Maiden of Might mumble a name. My name. Why does she look familiar? Not as Supergirl, but as-, “Kara?”

“It's me, Lena. I'm Kara.” Blood ran from the woman’s mouth as she spoke. “Help me…please…” Eyes rolling back, Kara slid into unconsciousness.

Holding the blonde against me, I pulled out a small device and entered an emergency code—two clicks, pause, five clicks—and waited for my security. “I'm here, I'll take care of you,” I whispered, pressing a gentle kiss to a blood-soaked forehead. “I'll hold onto you as long as you need.”

“Lena, what are you…shit,” Alex began, attempting to keep stable footing.

Meeting the woman’s gaze, I called, “ALPHA CHARLIE 52.”

“What?” Alex frowned. Before D.E.O. agents could approach, L-Corp security descended and blocked them, weapons at the ready. “Lena, what the hell?” Blood drained from the agent’s face as a rifle was held to her back.

“We control the scene, Agent. Until authorities from a recognized agency arrive, we are within our rights to secure the area. Miss Luthor is currently at risk as is Supergirl. Stand down,” my head of security said, her com open in my ear.

“Supergirl is unaffiliated with the government and has asked me for my help and Kara Danvers is an employee of CatCo. It is within her rights to choose her own care. We are leaving. Now.”

Shifting an arm under Kara’s knees, I got to my, now, bare feet and carried her out of the crater. Cameras flashed as I walked carefully towards a black SUV. There will be hell to pay when Alex isn’t being held at gunpoint, but so be it. The world knows Supergirl was calling out my name, asking for my help, not the government’s.

The moment we arrived at the lab, everything moved quickly. I had to get Kara inside and keep her alive long enough to help her the way she wanted me to. Alex and the D. E.O. will try to get in and highjack my work as soon as possible. Once the process starts, Kara cannot be moved.

Once she was cleaned up and I was changed into something more lab-appropriate, I began the process of draining Kara’s cells of the remaining yellow sun radiation. Cupping the woman’s cheek, I said, “Please Kara, don’t fight the anesthesia. It’s the only kindness I can do for you. The next few days to weeks are going to be excruciating, even to you.” I kissed just beside Kara’s lips before placing the oxygen mask on. “I don’t know if you can hear me or not but, know that I love you more than anything or anyone else. Everything I do from this point on is for you and eventually us.” Noticing a spike in the blonde’s vitals, I was given my answer.

“Trust…you…”
